The event will feature dancing all afternoon with Joe Cimo. The fee is $1 and a light lunch will be served. A non-alcoholic toast will take place at noon. Cub Scouts recruit, hold special program Cub Scout Pack 258 of Mahwah will register new Tiger Scouts on Dec. 17 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the all-purpose room at Joyce Kilmer School. The event is being held to encourage first grade boys to join the pack, but any boys in grades one through five are invited to register. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building located at 475 Corporate Drive. Restaurant discount cards available The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce is offering a new restaurant discount card is as part of WinterFest, an eight-week community celebration that is now underway and will wrap up on Jan. 29, 2011. The card entitles holders to a 10 percent discount on food purchases at select chamber member eateries. Participating restaurants include: Brady’s at the Station, Fountainview Restaurant at the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel, Mahwah Bar and Grill, Mason Jar, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Olé Olé Restaurant, Ramsey Golf and Country Club, Restaurant L, Saffron at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton, Windsor Grille Restaurant, and Lounge at the Comfort Inn Conference Center. Some restrictions apply. Cards may be picked up at any of the participating restaurants, or at the Chamber office at 65 Ramapo Valley Road, Suite 211, while supplies last. Holy Cross announces services Holy Cross Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod located at the corner of West Ramapo Avenue and Route 202 North, has announced its Advent and Christmas services. Every Wednesday in December, Holy Cross will have special worship services at 7:30 p.m. telling the story of the Newborn King with the Stars of Christmas. The services will cover “The Perfect Star,” Creation, “The Fallen Star: Lucifer,” “The Promised Stars: Christians,” and “The Guiding Star: Bethlehem.” All services will include Holy Communion. On Sunday, Dec. 19 at the 10:25 a.m. worship service, the children of Holy Cross will offer the Children’s Christmas Program. They will also tell the story with the Stars of Christmas. After the service, there will be fellowship with a special guest to give each child a special gift. Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) services will be held at 5 and 10 p.m. Both services will feature candlelight and Holy Communion. The early service will be for families, and the later will be a traditional service. There will be a special hymn service on Christmas morning at 10:30 a.m. and it will include Holy Communion. For more information call the church at (201) 529-2117. PBA holds Toy Drive The Mahwah Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 143 will collect toys in memory of retired Det. Lt. Michael Marozin. This year, the toys will benefit military families, Sanzari’s Children’s Hospital, Tomorrow’s Children, Hackensack University Pediatric Center, Bergen County Head Start, Westside Infant and Teen Center, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, and New Hope. The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will assist with this collection throughout the ongoing Winterfest Celebration. Boxes will be located at merchants throughout Mahwah, the Veterans Park area, and other towns throughout Bergen County. New unwrapped toys may also be dropped off at the Mahwah Police Station at 221 Franklin Turnpike. Model railroad exhibit opens The Donald Cooper HO Model Railroad at the Mahwah Museum will be open for special hours on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. for four weeks through Dec. 17. This recently expanded layout features a carnival, cityscapes, mountainous terrain, the Great Falls of Paterson, two subway lines, a four-track run-through passenger terminal that is based on Newark’s Pennsylvania Station track plan, a freight bypass around the passenger terminal, some very intricate railroad junctions, and Thomas on his own special track. Located at 201 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah, the museum is also open Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per adult; those under age18 are admitted free.
