December 8, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II, III & IV • Page 17 The Midland Park High School Athletic Booster Association is currently preparing for the second phase of its gym renovation project, and is seeking support from the community in the form of volunteer labor and contributions of funds or supplies. According to Boosters President Marty Costello, The association’s goal is to make Midland Park High School’s gym the best in the school’s new athletic conference, the NJIC Patriot Division. The aim is to have a gym that will build student-athletes’ pride and will leave NJIC opponents with a favorable impression of the school and its athletic program. “The scope of our project includes installing new banners that will recognize the achievements of our teams and student-athletes. The new banners will provide a legacy of MPHS Boosters seek support for gym improvements achievements that will result in increased pride throughout the school and the community,” Costello said. “Also included in the project is a much-needed fresh coat of paint that will certainly enhance the display of our new banners as well as brighten up the gymnasium,” he added. The Boosters will pay for the new banners and will be volunteering the labor to install them and to paint. To enhance the appearance and complete the new, contemporary look, the association would also like to replace the wall cushions and install new energy-efficient lighting fixtures, Costello added. “Unfortunately, our current funding will not be able to cover these items. The district is currently working with an outside firm to conduct an energy audit of the entire school MIDLAND PARK Holiday GIFT GUIDE system. We are hopeful that the audit will conclude that a significant cost savings can be gained by replacing the current lighting in the gym,” he said. “We are reaching out to the community for support. If you find it within your economic means, you can make a contribution to the Boosters that we will earmark for this project,” Costello said. The Boosters are also seeking donations of painting supplies from local companies or help from local tradesmen. The volunteer team plans to work in the gymnasium during the week of Dec. 27 through 30 and additional volunteers are needed to help complete the work. “If you can spare a few hours to help us, that would be great! No artistic skills are required. The Boosters and, ultimately, our student-athletes will truly appreciate your efforts,” he said. Contact Marty Costello at (201) 447-5966 or mkcmc@concentric.net to volunteer. “Midland Park is a small, tight-knit community that will always pull together for a good cause in support of our children,” he added. “Please consider this an opportunity to give back by helping us with our project. We would love to have you associated with our success.” The first phase of the gym improvement project was completed in 2007. At that time, the green stripe around the gym was repainted and new graphics were added depicting the new panther logo. The words “Midland Park Panther Pride” were added across the far wall of the gym. “We remain thankful to the volunteers who turned out to help us paint, as well as those that contributed their talents and resources to create the new logo and graphics,” Costello said. “MPHS alumnus Dan Weaver provided us with the great new logo design that was turned into the display materials by Ruitenberg Displays. Completion of Phase I was a fine example of how the confluence of talent and resources across the school community can work together to provide something better for our student-athletes. It also supports the strategic plan of the schools and the vision and mission of the MPHS Boosters.” C E L E B R AT E AT T H E N E W W W W. S A L 4 M E N .
