Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • December 1, 2010 Mahwah Alex Ciocci of Mahwah Boy Scout Troop 258 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve. A Court of Honor was held at the Mahwah Elks Lodge, where Troop 258, family, and friends celebrated Ciocci’s achievement. The new Eagle Scout is the son of Janice and Louis Ciocci, and brother of Holly and Ryan. He began his Scout- Alex Ciocci earns BSA’s Eagle Scout Award ing career in September 1999 as part of Troop 197, and advanced through the ranks from Tiger to Webelo, earning the Arrow of Light in 2004. In 2004, he bridged into Boy Scouts and joined Troop 258. He progressed through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life, while earning 22 merit badges. He served in leadership roles of patrol leader and den chief. Ciocci’s Eagle Project involved the construction of a new footbridge at Ramapo Valley Reservation. The area surrounding the footbridge was enhanced to improve drainage and prevent erosion. The wooden footbridge is built upon natural stone with a stone step, and features handrails. The former bridge support beams were reused to frame out the trail area, and that area was filled with stone dust. Several rocks and stones were lined around the base of the trees, and fallen trees were cut and repositioned to channel rain water during heavy downpours. Ciocci acknowledged the generous donations from the Mahwah Elks Lodge #1941, Dykes Lumber in Tallman, New York, Home Depot in Mahwah, Wilkes Deli in (continued on page 15) Helpful Hints Helpful Hints from ome “Good weather stripping around doors and windows not only saves on heating and cooling costs, but also cuts down dusting time.” 27 Franklin Tpk, Waldwick Open Sundays 9-3 201-652-5666 Pat Says...
