For more information, visit ramseyjuniors.com. ‘Ready, Set, Kindergarten’ offered The West Bergen Center for Children and Youth will sponsor a three-day workshop, “Ready, Set, Kindergarten,” Aug. 23 through 25 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the Children’s Center offices at 1 Cherry Lane, Ramsey. Designed to promote social and emotional competencies in preschoolers, the program is intended to better prepare children to enter kindergarten in the fall. During the workshop, children will begin to develop the ability to listen to stories without interrupting, pay attention for short periods of time to adult-directed tasks, begin to share with others, participate in group activities, begin to follow rules, begin to communicate feelings in words, participate in other people’s games, and other social skills. The Center for Children and Youth provides counseling and psychiatric services for youngsters, ages two through 18 years. Since its founding in 1990, more than 7,000 children and their parents have been served. The Children’s Center is a division of West Bergen Mental Healthcare. Foundation to host benefit The Ramsey Public Education Foundation will host a Ladies Night Out fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. The evening will include food stations, hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, baskets filled with prizes, and special contests. Entertainment will be provided by the Ramsey High School Jazz Quartet. All proceeds benefit enrichment and technology at Ramsey’s public schools. Scholarship applications available Applications for the Edward C. Syder Scholarship Foundation for the 2010 school year are now available. Eligible applicants must be residents of Ramsey who have completed their freshman year of college. Qualified applicants for these scholarship awards must demonstrate meritorious academic accomplishment, contribution to their college community, and must be of high personal character. College or graduate students are invited to write to the Edward C. Syder Scholarship Committee, c/o Donald C. Application forms must be completed by Nov. 24, 2010. There will be no extension of time. The scholarship awards will be announced by Dec. 29, and will be granted for the 2011 spring term. Seniors plan theater trip The Ramsey Seniors have planned a bus trip into New York City to see the Broadway show “Billy Elliot” on Sept. 8. This show earned the Tony Award for Best Musical. Watch Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that inspires his family and his entire community, changing his life forever. Signup has begun at borough hall. Checks may be made payable to Ramsey Recreation. This event is open to Ramsey senior citizens; and proof of residency is required. The cost is $90 per person and includes transportation, lunch at Broadway Joe’s, and theater ticket. Senior activities will continue during August, except for bingo, which will resume in September. Farmers market institutes Pay it Forward The Ramsey Farmers Market is reaching out to others who are less fortunate with its Pay it Forward program. Visitors to the market bring non-perishable items each Sunday, and market vendors are donating fresh vegetables and fruits, breads, and freshly ground coffee to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. The Ramsey Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Street train station through Oct. 31, rain or shine. Teens available for employment YES, the Youth Employment Service, now has Ramsey High School teens who will babysit or pet sit, and can handle computer and office work, and a host of other responsibilities.
