Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • August 11, 2010 Ramsey Erin Karpovich recently attended NJSP Trooper Youth Week, a week-long program for 17-year-olds that simulates the training provided at the State Trooper Training Academy. Karpovich, who will be a senior at Ramsey High School next month, was one of 6,500 applicants from the State of New Jersey to have been selected for the program. She is also a member of the Ramsey Office of Emergency Management. “When we arrived to the grounds, none of us had any idea of what would be thrown at us,” Karpovich said of the program. “It was quite a learning experience. There are so many different areas of the state police RHS student attends NJSP Trooper Youth Week that I never even knew existed. We saw demonstrations from the scuba diving, K9, aviation, crime scene, and even marine units. For someone wanting to be involved in law enforcement within the state police, there are so many more options where you are not limited to being a trooper on highway patrol.” Karpovich said the training and instruction gave her a true-to-life glimpse of how a recruit’s 26-week training progresses. “I am honored to have been chosen to participate in this special program,” she said. “It’s recognized as the toughest State Police Training Academy in the country.” At right: Erin Karpovich with her father, Glen Karpovich, a retired Ramsey police sergeant and current Ramsey Deputy OEM Coordinator.
