Andrew Siemsen, president of the Ramsey Borough Council and a member of the governing body since 2006, has resigned. Making his announcement last week, Seimsen said he is stepping down to spend more time with his family, which includes his wife, Michele, and their two children, ages nine and seven. “I want to spend time with my wife and kids while I can; while they’re young, and while I’m young,” Siemsen told Villadom TIMES last week. He noted that being an active member of the council involves a much greater time commitment beyond attending the meetings each month. Voters elected the Republican to his first term on the council in November 2005, and he was sworn in to office in January 2006. Seimsen grew up in Ramsey and graduated

from Ramsey High School. He later graduated from the University of Tennessee and from Rutgers University, where he received a master’s degree in city and regional planning. Siemsen has been a consultant to the Ramsey Planning Board and a member of the Ramsey Environmental Commission and the Business Development Council. He is an industrial real estate specialist with Cushman Wakefield. In order to fill the vacancy on the council, the Republican County Committee will now submit the names of three potential GOP nominees to the Ramsey Council. The governing body will then have the opportunity to select one of the committee’s nominees. The borough’s voters will elect Siemsen’s successor this November, when they cast ballots on a candidate for the oneyear unexpired term.

For the 25th consecutive summer, a contingent from The First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey has participated in a mission project in Maine. This year, 13 adults and young people from the church lent a hand through the outreach known as MATE: the Mission at the Eastward. There, they helped homeowners in rural areas with repair projects. Local volunteers were Kathy Checke, Polly Fitzsimmons, Paul Jadick, Judy McDonnell, Will Peri, Jeff Robator, Karen Robator, Mike Treni, George Van Heest, Stephanie Van Heest, Drew Vernon, Chrissy Vita, and Pam Weaver. The Ramsey group was joined by
another larger church group from Pennsylvania. Together, the volunteers helped raise the pitch of one roof, shingled another roof, set support beams in a home built in 1830, painted the trailer roof over an oil tank, and carried out other repairs. Each day, several group members got up at 4:30 a.m. to prepare breakfast and the other meals. MATE is committed to aiding people who do not have the physical or financial resources to make the home repairs or renovations themselves. One or more people with contracting experience generally oversee the volunteers’ work. (continued on page 21)
