The Waldwick Band continues its summer season with a concert on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at the Waldwick Oval Amphitheater located at the intersection of Hopper and West Prospect Streets in Waldwick. The 8 p.m. concert will feature tenor Mitchell Shapiro. In the event of rain, the concert will be rescheduled for Sept. 3. Featured soloist Mitchell Shapiro joined the Waldwick Band as a member of its saxophone section in 2002. With members of the Waldwick Band, he formed the Bergen Sax Quartet that has performed at concerts of the band. He is also a talented tenor, having sung with choirs, barbershop quartets and Renaissance a cappella octets. He has sung the roles of Nanki-Poo in “The Mikado,” “George in She Loves Me,” and Squire Belville in “Rosina.” For his vocal appearance with the Waldwick Band, he will perform selections from the current revival of West Side Story.

In this documentary, Presley embarks on a 15 city U.S. tour in April 1972. More than 25 songs show Elvis at his most exciting as his on-stage performances capture the King’s impeccable showmanship. Elvis starred in 31 feature films and two theatrically released concert documentaries during his career. Many of his top-selling songs were from the movie soundtracks. Eleven of his soundtrack albums made it into the top 10 on the Billboard Album charts and of those, four became number one hits. It’s estimated that Elvis has sold over a billion records worldwide. “Elvis on Tour” was shot with several cameras, much like “Woodstock,” which enables viewers to see some of Elvis’ private moments in backstage rehearsals with his band. The film combines these with concert footage to provide all the excitement of being at an Elvis show. Songs include “See See Rider,” “Proud Mary,” “Burning Love,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Teddy Bear,” “Hound Dog,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” “Love Me Tender,” “All Shook Up,” Suspicious Minds,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” and “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” A 40-page book filled with photos, trivia, and tour information is included.

Special features include period newsreels, short subjects, classic cartoons, and trailers. “To Save a Life” (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) focuses on high school senior Jake Taylor (Randy Wayne), who is dating beautiful cheerleader Amy (Deja Kreutzberg) and will soon be heading for the University of Louisville on a full athletic scholarship. All is not perfect in Jake’s life. Flashbacks reveal that a social outcast, whom Jake ditched to be part of a cooler clique at school, has committed suicide. Jake struggles with guilt as he tries to come to terms with his seemingly golden-boy status in the face of the death of a person he may have, at least in part, driven to kill himself. Though this would be enough for a solid film, director Brian Baugh adds so many subplots that the movie becomes overly cluttered and loses focus. Divorce, teen pregnancy, underage drinking, and drug use are tossed in willy-nilly. But the most objectionable aspect of “To Save a Life” is its exploitation of teen suicide to underscore its theme.
