Seniors plan theater trip The Ramsey Seniors have planned a bus trip into New York City to see the Broadway show “Billy Elliot” on Sept. 8. This show earned the Tony Award for Best Musical. Watch Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that inspires his family and his entire community, changing his life forever. Signup begins on Monday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. at borough hall. Checks may be made payable to Ramsey Recreation. This event is open to Ramsey senior citizens; and proof of residency is required. The cost is $90 per person and includes transportation, lunch at Broadway Joe’s, and theater ticket. Senior activities will continue during August, except for bingo, which will resume in September. Bible study, children’s programs available The Ramsey First Presbyterian Church is offering a woman’s Bible study group, “Living Beyond Yourself: A Beth Moore Bible Study Series” beginning Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. and continuing on the second Tuesday of the month in the Metzger Room. Teen Librarian Mrs. Smith will be on hand to help third, fourth, and fifth graders build paper airplanes, balloon rockets, and more. “Wonder Science” will be held Aug. 3 through 5 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 15 Shuart Lane, Ramsey. OnStage presents ‘Once upon a Mattress’ OnStage’s production of “Once upon a Mattress” will be presented at Ramsey High School at 8 p.m. Aug. 12 through 14. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. “Once Upon a Mattress” is by turns hilarious and raucous, and romantic and melodic. This production, a rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance, provides for side-splitting shenanigans.

For details, visit the website at www.onstagenj.org or call Sheila Oprysko (201) 651-9367 or Lucy Trotter (201) 337-2294. ‘Ready, Set, Kindergarten’ offered The West Bergen Center for Children and Youth will sponsor a three-day workshop, “Ready, Set, Kindergarten,” Aug. 23 through 25 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the Children’s Center offices at 1 Cherry Lane, Ramsey. Designed to promote social and emotional competencies in preschoolers, the program is intended to better prepare children to enter kindergarten in the fall. During the workshop, children will begin to develop the ability to listen to stories without interrupting, pay attention for short periods of time to adult-directed tasks, begin to share with others, participate in group activities, begin to follow rules, begin to communicate feelings in words, participate in other people’s games, and other social skills. The Center for Children and Youth provides counseling and psychiatric services for youngsters, ages two through 18 years.
