Local student recognized Midland Park resident Kerry McGlade has earned second honors on the Clark University Dean’s List for the spring 2010 semester. Republicans to meet The Midland Park United Republican Club will meet at the Midland Park Library, 250 Godwin Avenue, at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9. Seniors invited to sunset cruise The Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center is hosting a sunset cruise with the Hackensack Riverkeeper on Thursday, Aug. 19. The two-hour trip up the Hackensack River will cover the same route traveled by the coastal schooners that once carried cargo to and from Bergen County. Attendees will pass the ruins of former docks and landings and discuss the region’s all-but-forgotten maritime history. The cruise will travel as far north as the Court Street Bridge for an opportunity to get an up-close view of the USS Ling, a WW2 Balao-class submarine and centerpiece of the New Jersey Naval Museum. The group will depart from the senior center at 4 p.m. The cruise will begin at 5 p.m. and finish at 7 p.m. Return time is between 7:30 and 8 p.m. The cost of the trip is $35 and includes van transportation, the two-hour cruise, and a beverage. Participants are invited to bring their own picnic dinner or snack to eat aboard the pontoon boat. Family movie nights set Midland Park Recreation will sponsor two free outdoor family movie nights at Johnny Vander Meer Field, 50 Dairy Street, on Fridays, Aug. 6 and 27. (Rain dates will by the following Saturdays, Aug. 7 and 28.) Movie nights will begin at 8:30 p.m. with music and a community slide show; the movies will begin at dusk. Children can join “Set Sail for Your Library!” and explore different ports of call as they read their way around the children’s room.
