MIDLAND PARK SIDEWALK SALE DAYS
Thursday, Friday & Saturday, August 5, 6 & 7 Sponsored by the Midland Park Chamber of Commerce
The Children’s Therapy Center Upper School recently held David Bolger Appreciation Day to honor the Ridgewood philanthropist for his contribution to the creation of the CTC Upper School in Midland Park. Bolger, through the DePhillips Foundation, also contributed over $75,000 to outfit the school with adaptive equipment and a playground. Located in the grounds of the Church of the Nativity on Prospect Street, Midland Park, the Children’s Therapy Center Upper School is a state-approved, private school that provides educational and therapeutic services for children with multiple disabilities. The CTC Upper School, which opened in September 2009, serves children with disabilities who are seven through 12 years of age. Bolger twice challenged the CTC to raise funds through “challenge grants” to create an Upper School. Both challenge grants were successful, resulting in over $300,000 in donations from Bolger and his foundation: The Marion & Silfred DePhillips Foundation, named for former residents of Midland Park. These donated funds were instrumental in the creation of the Upper School, which involved a renovation project to make a current space at the church accessible to children with disabilities. To thank Bolger for his generosity, the CTC Upper School honored him at “End of School Fun Day” at the Midland Park school complete with an ice-cream social, music, an interactive performance by Kurt Gallagher, and a presentation of thank you cards and posters made by the children.

Gallagher, a well-known children’s entertainer, regularly donates his time to the Children’s Therapy Center. The ice-cream social was hosted and sponsored by Waldwick Girl Scout Troop #869. This group of girls has been volunteering at the Upper School in many ways. The Girl Scouts have staffed a lemonade stand, and helped in the classrooms. Bolger was also honored at the CTC’s Fair Lawn
campus. Director of Development, Audra Hoffman said, “What better way to recognize the incredible philanthropy of David Bolger than by hosting events that are run exclusively by volunteers? I think it reflects who we are as an organization and what we mean to the community.” For more information about The Children’s Therapy Center, call Audra Hoffman at (201) 797-7440, extension 227, or visit www.thechildrenstherapycenter.org.
