Sponsors sought for PBA Cigar Dinner The Venetian of Garfield and Seasons of Washington Township will sponsor a Cigar Dinner Extravaganza on May 24 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Venetian in Garfield to benefit several Policemen’s Benevolent Associations. Beneficiaries include Mahwah Local 143, Garfield Local 46, Paramus Local 186, Saddle River Local 348, and Pascack Valley Local 206. Donations and contributions are being sought for this event. Individuals and businesses are invited to make a contribution or donate a gift certificate or merchandise or consider one of the special packages and journal ads offered. All contributors will be recognized the night of the event. Call (201) 952-9216, (201) 819-7570, or the Mahwah PBA at (201) 529-1000. 12U Baseball team holds fundraiser On Tuesday, May 4, the Mahwah 12U Black Travel Baseball team will hold a fundraiser at the Mason Jar on Ramapo Valley Road in Mahwah from 5 p.m. to closing. Reservations not required. The Mason Jar will donate 15 percent of the evening’s proceeds to the team. Team members are raising money to participate in the baseball tournament in Cooperstown, New York this summer. Restaurant supports 12U Blue Baseball The Mahwah 12U Blue Travel Baseball is holding Cooperstown fundraising nights at Chili’s, 900 Route 17, Ramsey, on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Chili’s will donate 10 percent of the sales brought in by the team’s Cooperstown fundraising efforts.
Attendees should ask their hostess for a flyer. This offer is valid for lunch, dinner, cocktails and takeout orders. Laurita offers cycling program Jennifer Laurita of the Bicycle Touring Club of North Jersey will offer Cycling for Women on Monday, May 3 at the Mahwah Public Library at 7 p.m. The program is free. Kick-a-thon benefit set A Kick-a-Thon and Karate Demonstration to benefit Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be hosted by Shidokan Karate of Mahwah on April 24. This event will be held at 300 Ridge Road, Mahwah, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The demonstration will begin at 12:30 pm. Sensei Mitch Cooperman, Fifth Dan, encourages area children age five and up and teens to participate in the event by obtaining pledges for their kicks and donations for St. Jude’s ongoing fight against childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Donations are due back to the school by May 15. Those who wish to participate in the June 13 Kick-aThon or to make a donation, should contact Judy at (201) 818-5120. Chamber scholarship applications available Applications are now available for the annual Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship for students attending Ramapo College. Deadline for applications is April 30. The Chamber offers this $1,500 scholarship to students who are currently attending, or planning to enter, Ramapo College in the 2010-11 school year. The scholarship is open to Chamber members and their children, Chamber members’ employees and their children, and Chamber employees and their children. Applications are available at www.mahwah.com. Attendees will have a chance to check out the department’s equipment and meet Sparky, the department’s mascot. Proceeds from the event will benefit the National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation.
