Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • April 14, 2010 Ramsey The Ramsey Ambulance Corps’ team of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation instructors will be offering a town-wide CPR class on Saturday, April 24 at 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, and all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and its Relay for Life. Class space is limited, so early registration is suggested. “This is the third year that Ramsey High School will be hosting the Relay for Life, to raise funds for the American Cancer Society,” explained RAC Vice President Michael Adams. “The first year, we sponsored Team EMS, with our CPR instructor and cancer survivor Kathy Wild participating. Unfortunately, Kathy passed away a few months later, and now we have increased our efforts with Team Wild.” The corps’ CPR instructors are donating their time to train as many Ramsey residents as possible. The course will be given at the corps’ headquarters at 41 South Island Avenue. To register, contact Richard VanDerWall at rvande rwall@ramseyambulance.org. For additional information, contact Michael Adams at (201) 825-3400, extension 420. CPR course set Pedestrian law (continued from page 7) for turning cars. Always walk facing traffic. Obey traffic signals, especially walk and don’t walk. Remain alert! Don’t assume that cars are going to stop. Wear reflective clothing when walking at night. Stay sober. Walking while impaired greatly increases your chances of being struck. The following guidelines apply to motorists: Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. Watch for pedestrians when turning right on red. Obey speed limits. Do not block or park in crosswalks. Keep your windshield clean for maximum visibility. Be alert for pedestrians at all times. Saving the planet Students at The Goddard School in Ramsey participated in a “Save the Earth” parade where they showcased their ecofriendly artwork last month. As part of Earth Hour 2010, the children and teachers took part in a number of activities to spread the message that by working together, each one of them can make a positive impact toward a sustainable future. At 10 a.m., schools turned off any non-essential lighting for one hour. Goddard Schools across the country created large banners and students decorated it with handprints and footprints, leaving their own little “carbon” footprint.
