Ramsey
The Second Annual Historical Luncheon sponsored by a coalition of historical societies from Northwest Bergen County will feature a presentation by historian Tom Dater, who is pictured looking at a map of Ramsey and Mahwah. The luncheon will be held May 5 at noon at the Ramsey Country Club, 105 Lakeside Drive, Ramsey. Sponsoring historical groups include Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Ho-Ho-Kus, Mahwah, Ramsey, Oakland, Upper Saddle River and Wyckoff. The Dater family settled in this area in the 1700s. John Young Dater was the first State Senator from Ho-Ho-Kus Township and was instrumental in the development of Ramsey. His son John Y. Dater II founded The Ramsey Journal in 1892. Tom Dater has continued his family’s passion for collecting and preserving local history. He is pictured reviewing a pre1800 map of Ramsey and Mahwah that was drawn by his father, John Y. Dater III. The cost for the luncheon is $40. Reservations are limited; call Joanne Lombardo at (201) 825-3789 or Kay Yeomans at (201) 327-2236 or visit www.usrhistoricalsociety.org.
