Emmanuel asks...
Can You Help?
Our hat’s off to the members of Midland Park Girl Scout Troop #25 for their non-perishable food collection. Mothers and More of Bergen County and Ethos Gym partnered up for a collection of paper goods and children’s books. We thank Atlantic Stewardship Bank for their annual contribution of Spring Time and Easter baskets for our families. They do a great job and are a valuable member of the ECF community. We are grateful to Joe Andrioli for organizing another fundraiser. Here is a man who steps up and asks, “How can I help?” You, too, can be our personal hero. Just give us a call! Our biggest need right now is for help with a mini-fundraiser or a simple financial contribution. You can organize a party at your home and ask your guests to bring a check. This is a “party with a purpose” and gives you a chance to entertain and make a big difference at the same time. These parties tend to be lively! You can magnify your result by inviting participation from your workplace or place of worship. People want to get involved in helping others; they just need your invitation to do so. Another big need: One of our families needs a new fence (6’ x 128’) for their yard. The old fence is beyond repair and is falling down. If you have a solution, please contact us. Save our van: A few years back, we were able to acquire a van due to the generosity of a local church. Since then, we have made countless deliveries of groceries and other items to families. Now we need your help to keep the van in operation (maintenance, licensing, gas, and oil). If you want to help by contributing or by organizing a fundraiser, please let us know. Help us to help others! Please attend our Wine & Art Night in Franklin Lakes at the Endless Vine on Wednesday, May 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. The suggested donation is $25, and this event will sell out quickly. Call us for details and to reserve tickets. We now need office volunteers at the following times: Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday from 2:30 to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call us at (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at the center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited. Our current hours are Monday from 10 to 1; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 to 5; and Thursday from 10 to 2. The Northern Regional Center is located at 174 Paterson Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Please visit us on the web at www.emmanuelcancer.org. As always, thank you for helping the children and their families!

A Message From Mahwah Board Of Education Candidates
Mahwah BOE
(continued from page 5) privatized, and one administrator, either a supervisor or an assistant principal position, will be eliminated. Physical education staffs will be shared at the Joyce Kilmer and Ramapo Ridge schools, a retiring secretary’s position will not be filled, the school district’s supply account will be reduced by $100,000, and the funding of clubs and athletics at the Joyce Kilmer elementary school, Ramapo Ridge Middle School, and the high school will be reduced. According to Deptula, the gift and talented program will continue to exist even though a teacher position is being eliminated because that program will be distributed among the existing staff. He added, however, that the full time paraprofessional positions will be eliminated and replaced by part time positions to save benefit costs of $600,000 and tuition reimbursement for teachers has been reduced by $105,000 leaving $100,000 for that purpose. Deptula explained the staff and program reductions and the tax increase saying, “The board made every attempt to minimize the impact on students and programs and at the same time stay within the four percent cap on taxes despite losing $2.8 million in state aid.” Voters will have an opportunity to vote on the 201011 school district budget at the school board elections on Tuesday, April 20. Suzanne Curry, Douglas D’Angelo, and Charles “Chuck” Saldarini, three incumbent members of the Mahwah Board of Education whose terms expire this year, are running unopposed.
