As part of its growing theatrical program, the Wyckoff YMCA will stage a night of comic opera on Friday Oct. 8. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the Y’s Carl Pfeifer Performing Arts Stage at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The evening’s centerpiece will be Puccini’s one-act comic opera “Gianni Schicchi,” which will be performed in English. Also on the program are comic scenes from “The Barber of Seville,” “The Impressario,” “Die Fledermaus,” and “The Merry Widow,” along with some operatic surprises. The program is sponsored in part by the Max Kade Foundation. Included in the local cast are Adelmo Guidarelli, Katherine Cardin, Josh Benevento, Reegan McKenzie, Sean Santry, Lauren Pearson, Steve Fredericks, Gregory Wright, Matthew Haines, Andrea Long, Mark Quiles, Ernie Revell, and Matt Wallace. Executive Director Joy Vottero said the operatic presentation is an exciting complement to the Y’s highly success-

ful program of Broadway musicals, children’s theater, and the advent of “Studio 691,” the Y’s school of visual and performing arts. “In our vision,” said Vottero, “the Wyckoff Y will serve as a center for the arts, encompassing areas such as music, dance, poetry, and painting. We will also sponsor appearances by authors and actors who will speak about their crafts. It’s our way of addressing an unmet community need. Over the past two years, we have been able to attract a talented group of actors and singers to our theater company. The Oct. 8 program will demonstrate their operatic strengths.” The upcoming production will be directed by Reegan McKenzie, with Georgianna Pappas serving as musical director and accompanist. Tickets are $35 and include dessert and an opportunity to meet the cast. Gallery tickets are available at $15. For further information, call the Y at (201) 891-2081. chosis. Affleck’s character is reminiscent of Hitchcock’s Norman Bates, not in his use of violence, but in his Jekyll/ Hyde life. Lou can be gentle and easy-going to the unsuspecting, and as a man of the law, he knows how to cover up his crimes. Excellent supporting performances are provided by Simon Baker as a big-city detective who comes to investigate, Ned Beatty as head of a local construction company, and Kate Hudson as the sheriff’s fiancée. Three making-of extras feature Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson, and Jessica Alba.’ “Secret Agent aka Danger Man: The Complete Collection” (A&E Home Entertainment) is an 18-disc box set of the series that debuted in America on CBS in 1965. This spy drama aired at the height of the popularity of the big screen’s James Bond. Patrick McGoohan plays agent John Drake, who travels all over the world in pursuit of international criminals, corrupt politicians, and stolen secrets. All 86 episodes are included in broadcast order, from the original season, which aired only in the United Kingdom as “Danger Man,” to the 47 episodes of “Secret Agent” that were seen internationally, including two color episodes that marked the finale of the long-running suspense thriller.
