The event will be held behind the Saddle River Firehouse at 85 East Allendale Avenue from 1 to 5 p.m. (Rain date: Oct. 3.) In addition to the adoptable dogs and cats, the event will be attended by many animal welfare, rescue, and service organizations including Last Resort Pet Rescue and Sanctuary, Humane Society of Bergen County, Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge Inc., Closter Animal Welfare Society (CLAWS), the Onyx and Breezy Foundation, and more. Dr. Kathleen Hefner of the Animal Hospital of Saddle River will be conducting a rabies clinic free of charge to the dogs and cats of Saddle River and the Pet Adoption Day, free rabies clinic scheduled Saddle River Valley Notes Jacobsen to host lighting seminars Two free “Creative Landscape Lighting” seminars will be presented by professionals from Jacobsen Landscape Construction and Design at the company’s new Landscape & Garden Gallery at Barnstable Court in Saddle River. Vaccines offered The Valley Hospital Department of Community Health and the Saddle River Board of Health will offer flu and pneumonia vaccines on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Saddle River Borough Hall, 100 East Allendale Avenue, Saddle River from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration is required; call (201) 291-6090. Flu and pneumonia vaccines are covered by traditional Medicare Part B. Recipients must present their card at the time of service. Anyone with an HMO may choose to go to his or her primary care provider or pay $27 for a flu vaccination. Pneumonia vaccines will be available for those who have never had a previous pneumonia vaccination. The cost is $35. Flu shots are encouraged for those aged 65 and up, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and children -- especially those from six months and five years old. Support group to meet LifeLines, a supportive and informative resource for prostate cancer patients and their partners in Northern Bergen County, will meet Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. The group was formed by prostate cancer patients to share information and experience about available treatment and service resources. The group does not offer or give medical advice, only insight, information, and support based on personal experience.
