Jay Ludwig and Philip Rorty, event cochairmen, recently contacted the Ho-HoKus Council to apprise the governing body of the department’s plans. Tentative plans call for an afternoon and evening event that will include food, beverages, and entertainment. “The department will need to have the use of Orvil Court, parts of Warren Avenue, and parts of Sycamore Avenue,” Ludwig and Rorty wrote in their letter to the council. “The details still need to be worked out. We will keep you advised of specifics of the plan as they develop.” “It’s still in the planning stages,” Rorty recently told Villadom TIMES of the event. Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall said, “We all look forward to it. It’s a great opportunity to observe the anniversary of an organization that has protected the lives and properties of the people of Ho-Ho-Kus over the last 100 years.” Manned by volunteers, the borough’s fire department was organized in 1911 and serves approximately 4,000 Ho-Ho-Kus residents and many more through its membership in the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Association. The borough is chiefly residential in character, but also includes a K-8 school, an industrial park, a business district, and office buildings. Route 17 and the New Jersey Transit main line railroad pass through Ho-Ho-Kus, making the municipality attractive to commuters and keeping the borough bustling throughout the day. According to the fire department’s website, the organization is now comprised of more than 50 volunteers from various walks of life, all of whom share the goal of protecting residents and neighbors. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to join the fire department, but teens who are between the ages of 16 and 18 are invited to join the Junior Auxiliary. he department also has its own Ladies Auxiliary. For membership information, stop by Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department Headquarters any Tuesday evening between 7:30 and 9 p.m. The borough’s fire station is located at 52 Sheridan Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus (adjacent to Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall).
