Upper Saddle River September 22, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Inspired by the success of the 2009 solar panel installation at the Cavallini Middle School, the Church of the Presentation on West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River is now planning to follow suit. “The school was part of our inspiration,” Father Bob Stagg, church pastor told Villadom TIMES last week. Stagg stated that, while everyone should be encouraged to foster “green” pursuits, “churches have more of a moral responsi- Church of the Presentation plans to add solar panels bility to be good stewards of the earth.” He added, “We’ve been encouraging the Archdiocese of Newark to move in this direction, too.” At present, Stagg could only name one other local church that is taking advantage of solar energy. Commenting on the progress of the solar project at Presentation, Stagg said, “The lawyers for the parish are dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.” He said the initial outlay for the solar panels would depend on the size of the unit to be purchased, an item still under negotiation as of late last week. However, Stagg said the church was considering either a 39 KW or a 50 KW system. The church building is exposed to the sun for many hours each day, and Stagg noted that the panels could be (continued on page 23) Celia Galimi has resigned her seat on the Upper Saddle River Board of Education effective Sept. 20 for personal reasons. She was serving her second term. “On behalf of Upper Saddle River Board of Education, I thank Mrs. Galimi for her dedicated service to the students of our district. Her tireless efforts to create an exemplary educational experience for our children are truly appreciated,” said Superintendent Dr. Monica M. Browne. The school board is now requesting applications for Trustee resigns from school board; replacement sought Galimi’s unexpired term, which ends in April 2012. The process for filling this vacancy is determined by law. The board will interview candidates and select a replacement who will serve until the election in April 2011. At that time, the replacement may run for the open seat. The board asks that interested candidates submit a letter of interest by 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30. Applicants should include qualifications they believe are relevant to this position. Legally, school board members must be able to read and write, must be U.S. citizens and must have resided in the school district for a minimum of one year. Eligible applicants must not have any contract with, or claim against, the board, and must not hold an office such as mayor or council member within the same town, and must be registered to vote in the district.
