Obituaries
Alice Corless Colonese of North Bergen, formerly Wyckoff, died Sept. 13. She was 75. She had been employed at the corporate office of JC Penny in Manhattan. She was a parishioner of Saint Gabriel’s RC Church in Saddle River and a former parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s RC Church in Wyckoff. She is survived by her husband Frank, daughters Allyson, Angela, and Tricia, siblings Patrick and Colleen, and her aunts Ginny and Lorrey. She was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Frances. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. William Priestley Conyers III of Princeton, formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 8. He was 89. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He received his master of divinity from the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, and completed additional graduate study at the University of Basel, Basel Switzerland, studying under theologian, Karl Barth. He was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church and Wildwood Presbyterian Church, both located in Morehead City, North Carolina, and of First Presbyterian Church in Belmont, North Carolina. He was executive associate to the president and dean of students at the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Following a move to the New York area in 1964, he trained at the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry in New York City, was a staff therapist at The Long Island Consultation Center in Queens, New York; therapist and marriage counselor at the Psychotherapy Center in Fair Lawn; and counselor for the Palisades Counseling Center for the Palisades Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, USA. In 1969, he created the Center for Counseling in Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus, and maintained a private practice until his retirement in 2005. He was a diplomate of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and a licensed marriage counselor for the State of New Jersey. He is survived by his wife Helene of Princeton, his children James Conyers of San Diego, California, Anne Conyers Hom of Montclair, Olivia Van Wagner of Ewing, Carol Conyers, and Mary C. Sullivan of Schenectady, New York, and Janice Conyers of Reading, Massachusetts, his stepson, Joel Franklin of Montclair, five grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Janice Marguerite (Marge) Mason, his sister Olivia Conyers McManaway, and his son William Priestley Conyers IV. Arrangements were made by C.C. Before retiring, she was a teacher with the Franklin Lakes Public Schools. She was a member of Literacy Volunteers in Sussex County, and the Sophia Inclusive Catholic Community of Sussex County. She is survived by her husband George Davies of Newton, her children Van Lefford of Wrightstown, Sarah Lefford Cieslik of Irvine, California, and Adam Lefford of Mahwah, her step children Michele Pisacane of Fair Lawn, Scott Davies of Washington Township, and Chris Davies of Wayne, 10 grandchildren, and her siblings Joseph Careccia, Carmela Rath and Frank Careccia. She was predeceased by her daughter Beth Lefford. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home in Franklin Lakes. He was 87. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He had been a manufacturing executive, owning and operating several manufacturing companies in New Jersey, Florida, and Haiti. Prior to starting his business career, he played professional basketball in New York. He is survived by his wife Tracy, daughters Randy and Stacy, and three grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff. Celeste Leonessa of Mahwah died Sept. 10. She was 84. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Margaret McClear of Ridgewood died Sept. 12. She was 96. Before her marriage, she had a career in charity fundraising. Later she worked with her husband in a milk delivery business in Jersey City, and at Gold Bond Venetian Blind Company (later Ideal Aluminum Products). She had been active in Cub Scouts, school activities, Christ Church, and the Valley Hospital. She is survived by her son Richard, daughter-in-law Suzi of Belgrade, Serbia; two grandsons, and her sister-in-law Janice Happe of Jersey City. Arrangements were made by C.C. Olimpia Moran Olimpia Moran died Sept. 11. She was 86. She had worked at Saint Mary’s Mother of Jesus R.C. Church and rectory in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn for more than 40 years. She is survived by her children Ken, Michael, Kathleen, and Carol Ann, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur.
