Friends host Book Sale The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will hold a Book Sale on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, 245 Lake Street, Upper Saddle River. Flu and pneumonia vaccines offered The Valley Hospital Department of Community Health and the Saddle River Board of Health will offer flu and pneumonia vaccines on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Saddle River Borough Hall, 100 East Allendale Avenue, Saddle River from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration is required; call (201) 291-6090. Flu and pneumonia vaccines are covered by traditional Medicare Part B. Recipients must present their card at the time of service. Anyone with an HMO may choose to go to his or her primary care provider or pay $27 for a flu vaccination. Pneumonia vaccines will be available for those who have never had a previous pneumonia vaccination. The cost is $35. Flu shots are encouraged for those aged 65 and up, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and children -especially those between six months and five years of age. Republican Club to meet The Upper Saddle River Republican Club’s first meeting of the fall will be held Sept. 28. Refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m. in the adult solarium of the Upper Saddle River Library at 245 Lakes Street. The meeting will begin at 7:45 p.m. All are welcome. With the November elections just weeks away, the focus will be on getting out the vote. Guest speakers will be the

Karaoke machine, picnic aid needed Father Lope from the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River would like to borrow a karaoke machine for the Parish Picnic, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 26 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to help make the picnic a success. Admission bracelets are $5 per person. Children age four and under will be admitted free of charge. Night of Broadway Stars slated On Friday, Nov. 5, the Church of the Presentation will host a Night of Broadway Stars at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton. Tickets to this popular event are $150 each. planned various programs that are free and open to library cardholders in Bergen County, unless otherwise noted. Bridge Club meets on Mondays at 7 p.m. or Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Players are grouped by experience level. Preregistration is required. Learn how to become a professional shopper at Mystery Shopping 101 on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. A variety of fitness classes are available including: Chi Kung on Mondays at 11 a.m.; Strengthen, Tone, and Stretch on Mondays at 9; Pilates on Mondays at 7:30 p.m.; Yoga, all levels, on Tuesdays at 9:45 a.m.; and Gentle Stretch Yoga for seniors on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. PTO hosts Monte Carlo Night The Upper Saddle River PTO will host its fall fundraiser, “A Night in Monte Carlo,” on Friday, Oct. 15. Bowling league seeks members The Wednesday morning ladies bowling league, Ladies of the Presentation, welcomes bowlers for its fall program. The league bowls Wednesdays at 9:35 a.m. at the Montvale Lanes, 14 West Grand Avenue, Montvale. The program runs for 33 weeks and is open to everyone. Vendors wanted The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is looking for local merchants and vendors to take part in a “Holiday Boutique at Saddle River.” The shopping event will be held at the Bishop House in Saddle River on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21. Proceeds from this event will benefit both the Bishop House and West Bergen Mental Healthcare.
