WEF hosts annual fundraiser The Waldwick Education Foundation’s annual Fundraiser Auction Dinner on Friday, Oct. 15 at Waldwick High School. Dinner will be catered by Olde Towne Deli, and guests will have the opportunity to win over 100 baskets and other prizes, while supporting Waldwick’s public schools. Prize baskets are donated by students, local families, and businesses. Anyone who would like to donate any new, unused items or baskets, may contact WaldwickWEF@aol. com or call (201) 251-8579. All proceeds benefit educational programs at the Waldwick public schools. Tickets are available at Plaza Jewelers at 10 East Prospect Street, and Olde Towne Deli at 24 West Prospect Street. Basketball program holds registration The Waldwick Junior Warrior Hoops program offers 10 weeks of basketball instruction, an intramural program, and traveling teams that play competitive games against other towns from December through March. The boys’ intramural program, for students in grades three through eight, helps participants develop their skills as they play games against other teams in the program. The Lil’ Warrior Girls’ basketball program, an instructional program, develops players’ skills and focuses on game situations. This program is open to girls in grades one through five. Third, fourth, and fifth graders may also play games within the program. Tryouts for competitive travel teams are scheduled for October. Teams are determined by interest and skill level. Boys’ travel is for students in grades four through eight; girls’ travel teams are open to students in grades three through eight. Registration will be held in the high school gym lobby Sept. 21, 22, and 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The fee for the Hoops program is $60. There are additional charges for the competitive travel league. fundraiser kickoff to reelect Tom Giordano and Don Sciolaro to the borough council on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall at Prospect and Smith streets. Tickets are $45 and may be purchased by sending a check made out to: Waldwick Republican Campaign, and mailed to Tom Giordano, 30 Durante Road, Waldwick, NJ 07463. Library celebrates ‘More Matters Month’ September is National Fruits & Vegetables: More Matters Month, and the Waldwick Public Library is celebrating with a special Storytime program on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 11:45 a.m. for children ages three and up. The program’s stories and activities will feature fruits and vegetables. On Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m., a special arts and crafts session will be held for children ages seven and up. Sign up at the front desk and create a beautiful picture using real fruits and vegetables as art supplies. Programs are open to Waldwick residents. To sign up, call (201) 652-5104. Join the WHS Pep Band
Students in grades six through 12 who play a band instrument are invited to join the Waldwick High School Pep Band, which plays at Waldwick High School football games. Deadline for registration is Sept. 23. The first home football game is Sept. 24. To register for the band, contact Ms. Innis at innisa@waldwick. nj.k.12.us. Shred-Day scheduled As part of his Eagle Project, Mark O’Leary of Waldwick Boy Scout Troop 308 will hold Waldwick Shred-Day on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waldwick Pool parking lot. Residents are welcome to bring any old personal/ confidential papers they wish to dispose of in a secure manner. Papers will be shredded on the spot by a mobile paper-shredding truck provided by Information Destruction Systems. Representatives from IDS will work with the volunteers to ensure that all materials are handled in a secure manner. After the documents are shredded, the paper will be recycled into tissue and paper towel products. Free-will donations will be accepted and half the proceeds will be donated to the Waldwick Lions Club. Counseling available Waldwick United Methodist Church is offering Christian marriage counseling to couples who are seeking help with their marriages, and to those planning to enter into marriage.
