Motorist alert Goffle Road will be closed intermittently between Rock Road in Hawthorne and Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff now through Nov. 15 as PSE&G crews and their contractors perform work. Access to local businesses located in the detour area will be available. Detours will be posted. Motorists traveling on Goffle Road should anticipate delays, plan an alternate route, or plan for more travel time and follow the detour. Emergency vehicles will have access to streets within the road closure at all times. be presented by professionals from Jacobsen Landscape Construction and Design at the company’s new Landscape & Garden Gallery at Barnstable Court in Saddle River. Seminars are set for 7 p.m. and will take place on Sept. 29 and Oct. 12. Rain dates: Sept. 30 and Oct. 14, respectively. Learn about the newest and most creative techniques used by professionals to enhance the beauty of a home, including the right design for a home’s style and landscape; energy efficient technology for most dramatic effect at lowest cost and with least maintenance; lighting for lifestyle; and how to work with a lighting contractor. Gold Star Mothers honored A Gold Star Mothers’ Day Ceremony to honor mothers who have lost a son or daughter in a military action while serving in the armed forces, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26
at 7 p.m. at simultaneous ceremonies. Locations include the municipal buildings in the towns of Ho-Ho-Kus, Wanaque, West Milford, and Wyckoff. Arranged by The Blue Star Mothers of America North Jersey Chapter 3 in conjunction with the American Legion Post 53 in Ridgewood and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 192 (Ho-Ho-Kus/Ridgewood) and Post 7086 of Midland Park/ Wyckoff, the ceremonies are open to the public. Geologist to discuss human survival Dr. Michael Purdy, geologist, will discuss “Earth Science’s Central Role in Human Survival” at the Sept. 28 meeting of Activities Unlimited. The 10 a.m. event will be held in Heneneld Hall at Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Dr. Purdy, currently director of the Lemont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, previously headed the world famous Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. He will discuss the latest scientific developments in geology that affect the world. The meeting is free and open to the public. Activities Unlimited is a Bergen County Group of 350 retired men. Local potter to exhibit at fair The Glen Rock Autumn Craft Street Fair will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, with 100 quality exhibitors who will be set up along Rock Road. There will be a large children’s area with pony rides and a petting zoo, festival food, and entertainment. Potter Jennifer Stein of Ramsey will be participating at the show. Stein, a graduate of Vassar College and president of the New Jersey Potters’ Guild, specializes in macrocrystalline glazes and will have a display of her vases and other functional ware at her booth.
