New Deal programs explored The Hermitage History Roundtable will host Dave Smilon, professor of history at Bergen Community College, on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. During the Great Depression, the WPA, PWA, and CCC put people back to work building infrastructure and improving the environment across America. Smilon will discuss the work done in Bergen County and the projects that are still here and in use. The Saddle River and Emerson municipal buildings, the Westwood Post Office, and Graydon Pool in Ridgewood are all New Deal projects. Learn more about this fascinating time period in Bergen County’s history. The program is free and open to the public. Marber offers admission advice On Sept. 28, Joshua Marber, MS Ed., will present “Choosing the Right College” at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus. The program will begin at 7 p.m. Teens and their families will learn about the college admission process, including how to get started on the right road. Marber has over 10 years of experience in education and counseling, having worked as an admissions counselor, financial aid counselor, and academic advisor. WTC attack survivor to speak On Sept. 15, “My Faith Journey Pre- and Post-9/11” will be presented by Paul Carris, a survivor of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. The program will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the parish center at Saint Luke’s Church, 340 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. Carris will share how his near escape from the World Trade Center on 9/11 has had an impact on his faith journey. This program is open to the public. A free will offering would be appreciated. Auxiliary host Beefsteak Dinner The Ladies Auxiliary of the Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department will hold a Beefsteak Dinner on Sept. 25 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Guardian Angel Church in Allendale. Attendees will enjoy all-you-can-eat steak from Nightengale Catering, soda, coffee, and dessert, while listening to the music provided by a DJ. Church hosts Rummage & Craft Sale Saint Bartholomew’s Church, 70 Sheridan Avenue, HoHo-Kus, will hold its Second Annual Rummage and Craft Sale Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. This parish-wide sale will feature a wide range of merchandise including furniture, tools, kitchen wares, antiques, toys, linens, office supplies, and much more. Hand crafted jewelry and accessories will also be offered for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the church and its ministries. Established in 1904, Saint Bartholomew’s is a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark. The church’s outreach efforts include collecting clothing and household items for Saint Philips Methodist Ministries of Paterson, hosting regular meetings of AA, conducting food drives on behalf of the Ramapough Indians, providing support for migrant workers and their young children, and assisting homeless individuals from the area. Vendors sought The Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church is seeking vendors for its Holiday Bazaar scheduled for Nov. 13. Space reserved by Oct. 15 will cost $50 for an upstairs booth, and $40 downstairs. After Oct. 15, booths will be available at $75 and $60 each. The annual event will feature favorites for the holidays, including handmade crafts, baked goods, preserves and jellies, a book stall, a café, and musical entertainment.
