port. “It’s a good service for Waldwick residents,” commented Councilman Tom Palladino. Shred-day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Waldwick Pool parking lot. Information Destruction Systems (IDA) will provide a mobile paper-shredding truck to destroy personal/confidential papers on the spot. Residents can watch on a monitor their material being shredded. A security representative and an owner representative will be present to insure proper confidentiality and security for those availing themselves of the service. As the project day approaches, O’Leary said he is very excited about his undertaking. “People have a lot of paper that has accumulated over the years and don’t have time or don’t know how to get rid of it,” said the Don Bosco High School senior. “They are appreciative of this opportunity. Everyone I’ve spoken to thinks it is a good idea,” he added. O’Leary said he got the idea for the project after hearing about the success of Ridgewood’s shred-day. “They had a huge turnout, so I thought it would be a really

The activities department at Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) in Wyckoff recently held a Kids’ Fashion Show where employees’ children modeled summer fashions for residents of Heritage Manor Nursing Home and Southgate behavior-management unit. good idea to have it in Waldwick,” he said. His Scoutmaster, Rick Rickley, agreed. The 17-year-old has recruited other Scouts and friends to help unload cars and carry the paper to the shredding truck and is looking forward to residents availing themselves of the free service. He is asking for free-will donations ($10 per bag or box is suggested), the proceeds of which will be split evenly between the Waldwick Lions Club and the Passaic company that is providing the shredding truck. The company is bonded, fully insured and performs background checks on all its employees. Once paper is shredded into confettisized pieces, it is taken to a recycling facility that uses pulping mills to make new tissue and paper-towel products. Further information on the company is available at www.ids1.net.
