However, a borough official familiar with the negotiations said the two groups, which have not met again since that time, are currently “looking at options.” “It’s hard to change in the midst of change,” the official said, making reference to the police department’s current state of flux. Last month, Police Chief Gregory Kallenberg announced his plans to retire at the end of November, and other members of the department are reportedly eligible to retire if they choose to do so. Contract negotiations are being handled by members of the PBA and the borough council’s Police Committee. Members of the Police Committee include Councilmen John Mongelli, Gordon Hamm, and Doug Troast. LaCroix is the local organization’s current president. The current police contract took effect Jan. 1, 2007 and extends through Dec. 31, 2010. That agreement includes salary increases of 4.25 percent for each of the three years. The PBA contract covers the majority of the police department’s personnel, except for Ho-Ho-Kus Police Chief Gregory Kallenberg and John Wanamaker, who had been serving as the department’s lieutenant until he was promoted to captain earlier this year. The PBA is involved in various community activities and events. One of the year’s most popular activities is the Junior Police Academy, which is held for one week each summer for students at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. J.
