Movie under the Stars set The Ho-Ho-Kus Family Movie Night will be held on Friday, Sept. 10 on the town green. This year’s flick will have everyone on the edge of their seat as they watch a young girl fall down a rabbit-hole into a fantasy realm populated by talking playing cards, the raging Red Queen, and a stark raving Mad Hatter. Before the movie begins, the audience will be treated to jazz, which will play until dusk. The Ho-Ho-Kus Recreation Commission is hosting this free event in cooperation with the Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce. WTC attack survivor to speak On Sept. 15, “My Faith Journey Pre- and Post-9/11” will be presented by Paul Carris, a survivor of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. The program will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the parish center at Saint Luke’s Church, 340 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus. Carris will share how his near escape from the World Trade Center on 9/11 has had an impact on his faith journey. This program is open to the public. A free will offering would be appreciated. Auxiliary host Beefsteak Dinner The Ladies Auxiliary of the Ho-HoKus Fire Department will hold a Beefsteak Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Guardian Angel Church in Allendale. Attendees will enjoy all-you-can-eat steak from Nightengale Catering, soda, coffee, and dessert, while listening to the music provided by a DJ. Reservations are $40 per person and are being accepted through Sept. 20. Checks may be made payable to “HHKFD LA” and sent to: Trish Ludwig, 618 Hollywood Avenue, Ho-HoKus, NJ 07423. Tickets will not be sold at the door, and participants are encouraged to purchase tickets early. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Go 4 the Goal Foundation in honor of Blake Buffa of Ho-Ho-Kus. Local historian to discuss John Fell Peter Fenzel will present a program about former Allendale resident John Fell at the Sept. 14 meeting of the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors. Fell, a supporter of George Washington and an American patriot, was captured by the British and imprisoned in New York City from April 1777 to January 1778. While imprisoned, he wrote a 16-page diary. Fell built his mansion on Franklin Turnpike in Allendale in the 1760s. The building was recently purchased by the Concerned Citizens of Allendale. Members of the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the education center at The Hermitage. Beverages and dessert are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m. Residents who are at least 55 years of age are welcome to attend. For program informa-

Club’s Bridge Marathon to commence The eleventh season of the Ho-Ho-Kus Woman’s Club Bridge Marathon will begin on Monday, Sept. 13. New players are welcome. Vendors sought The Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church is seeking vendors for its Holiday Bazaar scheduled for Nov. 13. Space reserved by Oct. 15 will cost $50 for an upstairs booth, and $40 downstairs. After Oct. 15, booths will be available at $75 and $60 each. The annual event will feature favorites for the holidays, including handmade crafts, baked goods, preserves and jellies, a book stall, a café, and musical entertainment. Reminder of hours at borough hall Hours of operation at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Due to budgetary restrictions, borough hall employees are not permitted to work overtime without special permission. Ho-Ho-Kus officials ask residents and others who conduct business at borough hall to leave enough time for staff members to carry out their requests during regular hours of operation. The police department remains open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a
week. The department of public works is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Library offers audio service The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has joined BeAT -- the Bergen eAudio Team. This service allows patrons to download to their home computer, iPod, iPhone, iPad and Nook, ebooks, audio books, videos, and music. Ho-Ho-Kus mugs for sale The Ho-Ho-Kus Branch of the Valley Hospital is selling 14-ounce travel mugs. The mugs, made of stainless steel, sport the Ho-Ho-Kus monogram and swivel tops. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Center for Women’s Health at Valley Hospital. Mugs are $13.50 each and may be purchased by contacting Linda Woodwell at (201) 444-7627. VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring Ho-Ho-Kus and the immediate area, including the HopperZabriskie Cemetery on First Street in HoHo-Kus, prior to 1966.
