Area September 1, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 11 On Sept. 12, eight residents from Bergen County will walk up to 26.2 miles along the historic route of the Boston Marathon® in the 22nd annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk. They will be among the more than 8,000 walkers expected to participate with the collective goal of raising more than $6.5 million for lifesaving cancer research and care for adult and pediatric cancer patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. Local participants will include Ashley Tourso of Glen Rock; Thomas Dunn, Ronald Saldarini, and Suzanne Saldarini Local residents participate in Jimmy Fund Walk of Mahwah; Korri Harris, Paul Manke, and Bruce Williams of Ridgefield; and Brandon Fruchter of Upper Saddle River. Presented by Hyundai and its Eastern Region dealers, the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk is the only event, other than the Boston Marathon®, that is sanctioned by the Boston Athletic Association to use the official historic marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston. “We are grateful to the thousands of determined walkers who are committed to raising funds for cancer care and research,” said Ann Beach, director of the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk. “The money raised by the walkers directly benefits local patients as well as people around the world as top doctors and researchers utilize the successes achieved at Dana-Farber.” The walk has raised more than $66 million since its founding in 1989. Walkers may choose to walk one of four routes: the entire 26.2-mile route, the Babson to Boston 13.1-mile route, the Boston College five-mile route, or the three-mile route with patients and their families starting at the Dana-Farber campus. For those unable to participate on walk day, there is a virtual walk option, allowing participants to fundraise online. Walkers are treated to a victory party at the Copley Square finish line complete with food and music. Walkers begin in Hopkinton between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m., at Babson College between 8:30 and 11 a.m., at Boston College between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., and in Boston at 2 p.m. To register or make financial contributions for the 22nd annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk, visit www.JimmyFundWalk.org or call (866) JF-1-WALK. The theme for the month of September is biographies, and the schedule of screenings is as follows: “Boys’ Town” (1938), Sept. 9; “Life with Father” (1947), Sept. 16; “The Stratton Story” (1949), Sept. 23; and “With a Song in My Heart” (1952), Sept. 30.
