October 27, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Ho-Ho-Kus Association seeks role in September 11 memorial by Jennifer Crusco Kevin Pianfetti and Pat Cancilla of the Ho-Ho-Kus Historical Association have received the Ho-Ho-Kus Council’s permission for the organization to take an active role in the tenth anniversary 9/11 memorial, which will be held in September 2011. The association’s representatives told the council that 9/11 is a part of the borough’s history, and the group’s members would like to be involved in the annual remembrance and encourage more people to attend. In a letter to the council, Pianfetti and his wife Nancy Pianfetti indicated that the association would like to invite attendees to an al fresco bagel breakfast to be held after the ceremony. “Our hope is that we can erect a white tent in front of the volunteer ambulance crops building (or other town site that you designate). The association will be responsible for all preparations and expenses for this event. However, we would need access to an electrical source for the coffee urns. “The general goal in forming this association is twofold: to preserve and honor the vibrant and rich history of HoHo-Kus and to offer HHK residents access to information and artifacts relating to that history. The events of 9/11 are now part of Ho-Ho-Kus history, and the annual 9/11 memorial offers HHK residents an opportunity to reflect and come together as a supportive and caring community to honor those lost. “We hope that you will grant us permission to begin planning the ceremony. We look forward to working closely with you, Mayor Randall, and the council member to create a tenth anniversary 9/11 memorial which will make HoHo-Kus proud.” At last week’s council work session, Councilman Kevin Crossley, who had been approached by the association about this matter, told Cancilla and Pianfetti, “I did bring it up to the council, so we are prepared. I’d be more than happy to be the liaison.” Cancilla asked if the she should return to a future council meeting for approval, but was told that was not necessary. Two Ho-Ho-Kus residents were killed in the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Neil Shastri and Richard “Woody” Woodwell are remembered each year at the borough’s 9/11 ceremony, which is held on the front lawn of borough hall, located at 333 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus. Due to a conflict with the annual League of Municipalities Convention, the Ho-Ho-Kus Council has canceled its November work session, which was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 16. A combination work session and public session will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 23. Meetings begin at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
