Basketball registration underway The Allendale Recreation Committee will hold basketball registration through Nov. 1. Registration can be completed online at www.arcsports.org. Donations sought for Project Graduation Project Graduation, the alcohol-anddrug-free graduation party planned and executed by a committee of Northern Highlands parent volunteers, is seeking donations from families and businesses to help defray the cost of this event to students. Financial contributions may be made to Project Graduation 2011, c/o Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue, Allendale, NJ 07401. The Project Graduation concept was introduced 15 years ago by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a means of keeping graduating seniors safe from the perils of drinking and driving on the “high risk” night of graduation. Jewelry party fundraiser slated The Allendale Woman’s Club will hold an all-day jewelry and gift sale on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Allendale Borough Hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Jewelry Party Plus fundraiser will feature jewelry from the Lorraine Baratta Collection and affordable gift items from At Home America. The event will also include a celebrity gift contest, with prizes donated by Rachel Ray. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Autumn Book Sale set The Friends of the Allendale Library’s Autumn Book Sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue. The sale will include a wide variety of “almost new” books for adults and children, including current best-sellers and volumes on history, science fiction, education, and travel – all at bargain prices that start at 25 cents. Videos and books on tape will also be offered. Proceeds from the sale go directly to the library to purchase new materials. Local landscaper holds clothing drive Borst Landscape & Design will collect gently used or new clothing and outerwear for men, women, and children now through Friday, Oct. 22. Area residents are invited to drop off items at the collection truck at 260 West Crescent Avenue, Allendale between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Halloween poster contest & parade planned Allendale children in preschool through eighth grade are invited to participate in the Halloween Parade sponsored by the Allendale Holiday Observers on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Brookside School auditorium. At that time, the children may show off their costumes. Judging will be for best costumes, group costumes, and parent/child combo. Cash prizes will be awarded to those with the best costumes. Each year students across the country try to break the world record for the most children reading the same book on the same day with an adult.
