Ho-Ho-Kus
The Blue Star Mothers of America North Jersey Chapter 3 (an organization whose members have sons and/or daughters in the military service of our country), in conjunction with the American Legion Post 53 (Ridgewood) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 192 (Ho-Ho-Kus—Ridgewood) and Post 7086 (Midland Park/Wyckoff) conducted simultaneous ceremonies in front of the Municipal Halls in HoHo-Kus, Wanaque, West Milford, and Wyckoff to honor the Gold Star Mothers both in our north Jersey area and elsewhere. At the Ho-Ho-Kus ceremony, the sidewalks in front of the borough hall and leading up onto its porch steps were lined with battery lighted luminaria, each with a large star cutout for the battery-operated light to shine through the opening. The lights represented individuals such as the Blue Star Mothers, the members of the VFW and American Legion who are there to support and guide the Gold Star mothers and their families in their time of need. Stanley Kober, VFW Post 192 commander, opened the ceremony by introducing Ho-Ho-Kus Council Members Kevin Crossley, Gordon Hamm, Maryellen Lennon, and John Mongelli; Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney, Freeholder John Hogan, Sheriff Leo McGuire, and Director, Division of Veterans Affairs Kevin Clancy; VFW District 2 Commander John Kelly and American Legion Post 53 Commander Robert Paoli; and then turned over the remainder of the event to the Blue Star Mothers, Jeanne Norton, Robyn Zampese, and Janice Sloat. Norton, the Chapter Chaplain and Blue Star/Gold Star liaison, then began with a pledge of allegiance and Zampese read the proclamation signed by Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall. Norton then continued with the following statement: “Our pride in their valor, courage, and strength goes beyond anything we can express…we recognize our Gold Star Mothers as forever sisters, so loved among us, so treasured and cherished.” Norton called forward two area Gold Star Mothers present for the occasion—June Augusta, mother of Sgt. Eric. J. Hernandez (Waldwick) and Nadia Cadavero, mother of Spc. Jon D. Cadavero
