October 6, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 17 Waldwick Watch Book Club to discuss ‘Kaaterskill Falls’ The Waldwick Library Book Club will host a discussion of “Kaaterskill Falls” by Allegra Goodman on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7:15 p.m. The sacred and the secular intertwine and clash in Goodman’s observant novel, which was a National Book Award finalist. The title refers to a small upstate New York town, which is the summer home of a congregation of strict Orthodox Jews. Copies of the book are available at the library’s circulation desk. Call (201) 652-5104. ‘Frankenstein’ screening includes new score The classic horror film, “Frankenstein,” starring Boris Karloff and Colin Clive, was released in 1931 without a musical soundtrack. On Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., Waldwick composer/producer Jay Dittamo will debut the musical score he created to accompany this dark tale of obsession, madness, and perverted science. The film, directed by James Whale, will be shown in its entirety. Dittamo has created music for television and motion pictures, and travels the world performing as a drummer/percussionist with dozens of musical groups. Republicans host re-election fundraiser The Waldwick Republican Campaign will host a 2010 fundraiser kickoff to re-elect Tom Giordano and Don Sciolaro to the borough council on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Prospect and Smith streets. Tickets for the fundraiser are $45 per person and may be purchased by sending a check made out to: Waldwick Republican Campaign, and mailed to: Tom Giordano, 30 Durante Road, Waldwick, NJ 07463. Air Force Band, Singing Sergeants to perform The United States Air Force Concert Band and the Singing Sergeants will perform in Waldwick on Oct. 12. The program is being presented by the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce and will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Waldwick High School, 155 Wyckoff Avenue, Waldwick. Admission to this event is free of charge, but tickets are required. There will be no reserved seats; instead, seating will be available on a “first-come, first served” basis. Ticket holders must be seated 15 minutes before the performance begins. Four free tickets may be requested with each coupon. Requests for tickets must be received by Oct. 6. Auxiliary hosts meeting The Waldwick Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a discussion about cooking on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the Waldwick Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike. Refreshments will be served and new members are welcome. Waldwick Shred-Day scheduled As part of his Eagle Project, Mark O’Leary of Waldwick Boy Scout Troop 308 will hold Waldwick Shred-Day on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waldwick Pool parking lot. Residents are welcome to bring any old personal/confidential papers they wish to dispose of in a secure manner. Papers will be shredded on the spot by a mobile paper-shredding truck provided by Information Destruction Systems. Representatives from IDS will work with the volunteers to ensure that all materials are handled in a secure manner. After the documents are shredded, the paper will be recycled into tissue and paper towel products. Free-will donations will be accepted and half the proceeds will be donated to the Waldwick Lions Club. WCA offers Mercedes as prize The Waldwick Community Alliance’s Mercedes-Benz C300 car fundraiser has begun. Proceeds will benefit the restoration of the Waldwick Train Station. Operation Reassurance available The Waldwick Police Department’s Operation Reassurance program is one of the most successful in the area. This program is open to all Waldwick residents ages 55 and older. The program requires the participant to call police headquarters by a prearranged time each day. If the individual fails to call, a communications officer will try to make contact with that person. If there is no answer, a police officer will be dispatched to check on the welfare of that person.
