Rotary hosts Thanksgiving Pie Sale The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club is holding its Thanksgiving Pie Sale featuring desserts from Di Piero’s in Woodcliff Lake. Order pies now for pickup in Allendale on Nov. 22 or 23. Filling choices include pumpkin, apple, peach, blueberry, mince, coconut custard, and pecan. Crust choices include traditional or crumb. Students to present comedy Brookside School’s sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will perform the comedy play within a play “Romeo and Juliet: Together (and Alive!) at Last” on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The performance, adapted by Sandra Fenichel Asher from the book by Avi, will be held at Brookside School, 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Senior citizens will be admitted free. Homemade apple pies available Archer United Methodist Church is selling frozen 10inch apple pies on Sunday mornings after the 10:30 a.m. worship service until Thanksgiving. Pies are $10 each. Proceeds will support the philanthropic efforts of the United Methodist Women organization. To purchase pies during church office hours, call 201327-0020. Community groups collect for CFA The Allendale Rotary, Allendale Chamber of Commerce, and Terrie O’Connor Realtors have joined forces to provide Thanksgiving dinners for 10 families through the Center for Food Action. Food donations may be dropped off at Terrie O’Connor Realtors at 75 West Allendale Avenue, Allendale Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eagle Scout candidate seeks donations Bobby Fernekees of Allendale Boy Scout Troop 59 is seeking monetary donations or supplies for his Eagle Scout project, which is in progress at Christ Episcopal Church in Suffern, New York. Fernekees is renovating a room for sorting clothing donations received by the church. The church hosts a soup kitchen, thrift shop, and other outreach programs. Items that are still needed include folding chairs and tables, plastic storage bins, and painting supplies. Donations sought for Project Graduation Project Graduation, the alcohol-and-drug-free graduation party planned and executed by a committee of Northern Highlands parent volunteers, is seeking donations from families and businesses to help defray the cost of this event to students. Financial contributions may be made to Project Graduation 2011, c/o Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue, Allendale, NJ 07401. The Project Graduation concept was introduced 15 years ago by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a means of keeping graduating seniors safe from the perils of drinking and driving on the “high risk” night of graduation. Woman’s Club hosts Holiday Breakfast The Allendale Woman’s Club will host a Holiday Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brookside School Cafeteria, 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. This annual event, which is open to people of all ages and religious affiliations, will include a full breakfast supplied by Allendale Eats, Bernie’s Bagels, and Dunkin Donuts. Highlights will include live entertainment, crafts, activities, and a visit from Santa. Attendees are asked to bring a new unwrapped gift for at-risk children from birth to age 12. Donated gifts will be distributed by OASIS: A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family, and will be
available at the Allendale Holiday Walk on Friday, Dec. 3 from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the door the day of the event. Ecumenical Bible Study slated Trinity Church in Allendale’s ecumenical Bible Study, “The Call to Discipleship,” is now underway. This weekly study will meet from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. through the third week of January 2011. “The Call to Discipleship” will be led by lecturer Erilynne Barnum, who teaches the scripture on video with practical living application and provides clear understanding and insight in her presentation. All are welcome. Each lesson stands on its own, yet builds on the previous lesson.
