Religious Notes Cathedral Choir to perform Handel’s ‘Messiah’ For 67 years, The Cathedral Choir has kicked off the Advent season for thousands with the presentation of the great oratorio “Messiah” by George Frederick Handel. This year’s performance will benefit and celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Christian Health Care Center of Wyckoff. On Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m., the choir will make its 67th annual presentation with The American Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Robert F. Davis, at the Hawthorne Gospel Church. The Cathedral Choir will be joined by a quartet of distinguished soloists: Jody Weatherstone, soprano; Linda Thompson Williams, mezzo; Clinton Ingram, tenor; and Raymond Jaramillo McLeod, bass baritone. The choir consists of talented amateurs. The soloists and orchestra possess extensive professional credits. Conductor Davis is an Conductor Robert F. Davis exponent of the Aspen Music Festival. He specialized in the major Baroque and 20th century choral works and the “Viennese classics.” His studies with Richard Westenburg, Thomas Dunn, and Carl Bamberger have provided him with a technique and understanding of musical form that greatly enhance his musical performance and musicological exposition. Admission is free, but seating is limited given the number of people who annually attend the performance. Hawthorne Gospel Church is located at 2000 Route 208 South in Hawthorne. Kirkley to perform Christmas concert Recording artist, Daniel Kirkley will perform at the Midland Park Church of God on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Kirkley will perform many Christmas favorites alongside the Midland Park Church of God Choir. He will also offer songs from his newly released CD and tunes from his previous two CDs, “My New Dawn” and “Let Love Win.” Kirkley has an innovative vocal style, which incorporates elements of his classical training fused with pop. The result is a unique sound, unlike anything on the contemporary Christian music landscape. Refreshments will be served following the concert. The service, which will begin at 7 p.m., will also feature Kol Rishon, the Temple’s adult choir and Zemer Rishon, the congregational teen choir.
