The painting, by Wyckoff artist Elmont Benger, was donated by TD Bank and had hung in the bank’s lobby for many years. Mayor Boonstra told the members of the township committee that Benger had been a long-term Wyckoff resident who maintained a small studio in Franklin Lakes during the 1960s and 1970s, and that many of Benger’s paintings had featured locations in Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, and Oakland. Learning that the bank was about to shift its location, Mayor Boonstra had asked if the bank might care to donate the locally-inspired work of art to the community, and the bank’s officials agreed. The painting is now displayed informally in the ladderback chair room used for council work sessions and other smaller meetings, and will eventually be mounted somewhere in Wyckoff Town Hall in a more permanent setting. Township Committee members praised Boonstra -- who also joined Deputy Mayor Kevin Rooney and Road Department Director Scott Fisher in planting willow trees at Zabriskie Pond earlier this year -- for his initiative in obtaining the painting.
