Incumbent Republican Councilmen Don Sciolaro and Tom Giordano won new terms on Waldwick’s governing body in last week’s general election, fending off a challenge from Democratic candidates John Patrick Hunter and Frank Jaegge. Giordano received 1,769 ballots, and Sciolaro received 1,709, while voters cast 1,312 ballots for Hunter and 1,281 for Jaegge. Sciolaro and Giordano thanked Waldwick’s voters for the opportunity to continue their service to the borough, and for their trust. “We look forward to the challenges that lie ahead and, as before, we will continue to work hard for you. We are the experience Waldwick needs in these difficult times. “Thank you for your support and together let’s continue to make Waldwick the best community to call home,” the councilmen said in a joint statement. When he is sworn in, Giordano will begin serving his third term on the council. He heads the council’s Environmental Services Committee, and previously served on the Buildings & Grounds Committee. He attended the Ameri-

He is a licensed funeral director in New Jersey and New York, and manages the Mack Memorial Home in Secaucus. A volunteer firefighter, Giordano has been president of the fire department for the past 14 years and is vice president of the Exempts Association. He is a member of the Waldwick Lions Club, the Italian Club, and the West Point Parents Association-New Jersey Chapter. He and his wife, Marion, have two children and are parishioners of Saint Luke’s Church. Sciolaro has also won a third three-year term. He holds degrees from Seton Hall and Fairleigh Dickinson universities and is the CEO of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. He was previously senior regional manager for the national Association of Manufacturers and district manager for Congresswoman Marge Roukema. He currently serves as president of the Highlands Community Association, and previously served as vice president and park commissioner.
Prior to joining the council, he served for 10 years on the Waldwick Library Board. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and has coached soccer and softball. He and his wife, Karen, have two children and are parishioners of St. Luke’s Church. Prior to the campaign, the councilmen said, “We will continue to seek opportunities for offering more programs and services for less. We will continue to be focused on reducing costs and identifying other revenue producing programs. Finally, we don’t look for short-term money saving gimmicks that may create even more difficult challenges down the road. While concerned about our current financial well-being, we know we are all here for the longterm. We can only do that if we are vigilant year after year and by making the right decisions for the right reasons.”
