Letters to the Editor (continued from page 18) that Mr. Giordano and Sciolaro are “best suited to keep our taxes in check.” “Waldwick has been among the best communities in the area in keeping the municipal portion of our taxes down, and this is the portion or our tax bill they control as council members.” Since I moved to Waldwick in 2007, my taxes have gone up each and every year at the municipal, county, and school levels. Furthermore, in the last election prior to this most recent one, a current council member (Ms. Bozzo) made a statement that she thinks “raising taxes on a consistent basis is the thing to do.” When I questioned the statement at a council meeting if that person thought the taxpayers of Waldwick could sustain yearly tax increases while the economy is headed in the opposite direction, notwithstanding that council member’s remarks, neither Mr. Giordano nor Mr. Sciolaro spoke out or condemned the statement. Accordingly, you may be correct in saying the municipal portion of the tax is under the direct control of the council. However, why don’t council members work with school boards and vice versa in order to keep spending and budgets in check for all Waldwick residents at all levels? In the recent county executive race, Kathleen Donovan said she saved each Bergen County family $300. The mailman obviously missed my mailbox with that check and it certainly isn’t in any form of tax relief. Mr. Jaegge hit it right on the head when he said voters selected one column based on our current president – but our current president didn’t create the mess we are in, the previous administration created it. Charles N. Arlin (Nursery Available) Dear Editor: As we all know, Thursday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. It is a day set aside to honor all veterans, past and present, living or dead. It is not a day set aside for sales and shopping. It is also a day that we should be proudly flying our American Flags. However, when doing so, please be sure your flag is in good condition. The Stars and Stripes should never be displayed if it is worn, torn, faded, dirty, old, or in any kind of disrepair. If your flag is old or worn, do not throw it in the trash. Bring it to an American Legion or VFW Post. There is a proper way to “retire” flags and your veterans’ organizations will be happy to help.
