She was born and educated in Germany, including some college. She was first employed in retail at Gebr Leffers, then Saint Joseph’s Hospital Sanatorium in Utersum, Germany, as a dietician. She came to the United States from Bremen, Germany in 1960. She worked at Burlington Industries and at Chase Manhattan Bank. She received a diploma from American Institute of Banking while employed by United Jersey Bank, now Bank of America, from which she retired in 2002 after 24 years of service. She is survived by her husband Mauro John Cappitella, and her children Mark Cappitella, Christina “Tina” Bartels, and Nicole Snyder, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and her siblings Irmgard, Liane, Helmut, Wilhelm, and Gunter. She is survived by her husband Bernard, her daughter Anna, her father Hugh Denny of Ringwood, and her brothers Michael Denny of Ringwood, and Stephan Denny of Manahawkin. Before retiring, she was the office manager for Universal Engineering of Hawthorne for 30 years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff. She was a member of the XYZ Club, and the Wyckoff and Midland Park senior groups. She is survived by her daughters Linda L. Kolenut of Hawley, Pennsylvania and Marilyn J. Barbara Lucey, nee Egberts, of Petersburg, Virginia, formerly of Ridgewood, and Ewing Township, died Oct. 26. She was 70. Anna Maria Manganelli, nee Vitelli, of Ho-Ho-Kus died Oct. 24. She was 79. She was a parishioner of Saint Luke’s RC Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. She is survived by her husband Alfredo, her children Anthony Manganelli and Carmen Clark, four grandchildren, and her sister Jolanda Amodio. Morrell, nee Karl of Allendale, formerly of Sebring, Florida, died Oct. 28. She was 88. She was an officer in the Grange in Northern New Jersey. She was an original parishioner and member of the church choir at the Van Riper Ellis Memorial Church in Fair Lawn. She is survived by her children James of Temecula, California and Joyce Caldwell of Tuxedo, New York, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two step grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren. Born in Cerda, Italy, he came to the United States as a young boy, Laura M. Jackson settling in Nunda, New York. He graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in law. He was a founding member of the law firm of Muscarella and Bochet, currently known as Muscarella, Bochet, Edwards, and D’Alessandro in Fair Lawn. He served as an associate judge for Fair Lawn Municipal Court, and was a member of the American Bar Association. He was a member of Saint Elizabeth RC Church in Wyckoff, a life member and past exalted ruler of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #1863, formerly of Fair Lawn. He is survived by his wife, the former Loretta (nee Mercuro) Riccio of Wyckoff, his son Michael J. Muscarella Jr. of Hackensack, his stepdaughters Patricia C. Rossi of Somerset, and Pamela V. Riccio of Wyckoff, and one grandson. He was predeceased by his first wife Anna (nee Scialla) Muscarella. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. John Avery Schafer of Saddle River and Ocean Pines, Maryland, died Oct. 18. He was 77. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of Bethany College, and an electrical engineer for Western Union in New Jersey before retiring to Ocean Pines, Maryland. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Clayton Schafer, his children Cynthia Mann, Elizabeth Schafer, and Sara Mellinger, and seven grandchildren. She is survived by her children Wayne Teschon of North Haledon and Bonnie De Jong of Pine Island, New York, two grandchildren, and her brother William Livingston. Emmaline Freund Vargish of Saddle River has died. She served as a nurse’s aid at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, and as a deaconess at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. She was a Scout leader and PTA member in her children’s schools in Tenafly. She designed and created toys and clothing for hospitalized and needy children. She helped launch the Valley Opera Company in her Saddle River home. She is survived by her children Nancy Beth Redeker of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania and George Vargish II of Sandown, New Hampshire, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two sisters and three brothers.
