To schedule an appointment call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Community groups collect for CFA The Allendale Rotary, Allendale Chamber of Commerce, and Terrie O’Connor Realtors have joined forces to provide Thanksgiving dinners for 10 families through the Center for Food Action. Food donations may be dropped off at Terrie O’Connor Realtors at 75 West Allendale Avenue, Allendale Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chamber plans meeting The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a dinner meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Pastafino, 1 Myrtle Avenue, Allendale. Jewelry party fundraiser slated The Allendale Woman’s Club will hold an all-day jewelry and gift sale on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Allendale Borough Hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Jewelry Party Plus fundraiser will feature jewelry from the Lorraine Baratta Collection and affordable gift items from At Home America. The event will also include a celebrity gift contest, with prizes donated by Rachel Ray. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Donations sought for Project Graduation Project Graduation, the alcohol-and-drug-free graduation party planned and executed by a committee of Northern Highlands parent volunteers, is seeking donations from families and businesses to help defray the cost of this event to students. Financial contributions may be made to Project Graduation 2011, c/o Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue, Allendale, NJ 07401. The Project Graduation concept was introduced 15 years ago by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a means of keeping graduating seniors safe from the perils of drinking and driving on the “high risk” night of graduation. Rotary hosts Thanksgiving Pie Sale The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club is holding its Thanksgiving Pie Sale featuring desserts from Di Piero’s in Woodcliff Lake. Order pies now for pickup on Nov. 22 or 23 in Allendale. Filling choices include pumpkin, apple, peach, blueberry, mince, coconut custard, and pecan. Crust choices include traditional or crumb. Ecumenical Bible Study slated Trinity Church in Allendale’s ecumenical Bible Study, “The Call to Discipleship,” is now underway. This weekly study will meet from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. through the third week of January 2011. “The Call to Discipleship” will be led by lecturer Erilynne Barnum, who teaches the scripture on video with practical living application and provides clear understanding and insight in her presentation. All are welcome. Each lesson stands on its own, yet builds on the previous lesson. No previous Bible study is necessary to attend. Attendees are welcome to come as often as possible. Bargain books available Bargain books are available at the Allendale Library. Current and topical books, tapes, and videos for adults and children may be purchased at bargain prices in the lobby of the Lee Memorial Library at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. On display are many children’s books, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, and current best-sellers. The sale is ongoing and the shelves are restocked daily. Books are priced from 25 cents to $1. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Proceeds from the sale go directly to the library for the purchase of new materials. Nickie Lisella of Terrie O’Connor Realtors Allendale Group recently had a chance to meet celebrity chef Bobby Flay at the Short Hills Mall, where Flay was signing copies of his new cookbook, ‘Throwdown.’ Lisella asked Flay to judge the Allendale Festival Pie Contest next year, and Flay said if he is available he would be there.
