Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • November 3, 2010 Waldwick The Waldwick Band will move to a new location when it opens its 2010-11 winter concert season on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14. The concerts will be at The Village School, 100 West Prospect Street in Waldwick. The Village School is close to the intersection of Hopper Avenue and West Prospect Street, and its parking lot can be accessed from either road. The school is also across the street from the Waldwick Circle Amphitheater. Many years ago, when the Village School building was the Waldwick Middle School, the band regularly met there. After the school was sold to private interests, interior renovations prevented its use for concerts. The Village School has returned the auditorium to its former configuration, complete with theater style seats and a stage. Conductor Edmund A. Moderacki will give the downbeat for the concert at 3 p.m. on Nov. 14. There is no admission Waldwick Band to begin season in new location charge for the performance. The soloist will be Carl Stromberg, who received his bachelor’s degree in classical vocal performance from William Paterson University in 1999. He studied voice with Dr. Stephen Oosting and Nico Castel of the Metropolitan Opera. He has performed the role of Dr. Bartolo in the “Marriage of Figaro,” Leporello in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” and Marcellus Washburn in “The Music Man.” As a church musician, Stromberg has been singing since the age of eight, and has performed and recorded with the Saint Bartholomew’s Chancel Choir in New York City, where he met his wife Nina Sartori. Stromberg teaches instrumental music for “Music for Life,” a division of Ackerman’s Music in Wyckoff. He has written and arranged many pieces of music, including an arrangement of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” for wind band, which was performed by the Waldwick Band last year. His Christmas medley for band and choir was premiered by the Stonewall Choral in New York City, and by the Westbourne Symphony of Bourne, UK. Stromberg has three children Stephen, Jonathan, and Heather, and granddaughters Riley and Mackenzie. He and his son Jonathan and were classmates at William Paterson. Stromberg plays tuba for the Waldwick Band and the Teutonic Knights. He also plays euphonium and string bass. He performs with the Westwood Band, Rockland County Concert Band, and with the Southampton Wind Band, Bournemouth Philharmonic Orchestra (UK) as principal tuba, the Westbourne Symphony as principal tuba, and the Sam Newgarth Light Orchestra as principal bass. He is currently writing a collection of German band music. Stromberg will sing Rossini’s “Largo al factotum” from “The Barber of Seville,” “I’ve Got You under My Skin,” and “Fly Me to the Moon.” The program will also include Henry Fillmore’s “American’s We,” Samuel Barber’s “Commando March,” the prologue to “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein, Gustav Holst’s “Second Suite in F,” Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz of the Flowers,” from “The Nutcracker,” and “The Classic Duke,” an arrangement of music associated with Duke Ellington by Paul Murtha. Marches and light pieces will complete the program.
