Learn about college admissions, aid A program to aid parents and high school students in the college admissions process will be offered Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at Lee Memorial Library in Allendale. Learn the most current tips on how to help a high school student maximize acceptance opportunities, how to find financial aid, and how to de-stress the college search and application process. UCLA-certified college advisor Carolee Gravina will present this hour of trends and strategies that will make a difference in navigating the college admissions process. Gravina, a trustee of the Northern Highlands Regional High School Board of Education, is a Yale graduate, published children’s author, and parent of two college students. An active member of the Higher Educational Consultants Association, she visits over 30 college campuses annually. The Insider Tips session is recommended for parents of high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and is free to the public. Swimmers sought Boys and girls, ages seven through 17, are invited to join Crestwood Lake’s summer swim team, The Crestwood Cruisers. Project Graduation seeks community support Project Graduation 2010 organizers are seeking the community’s support to help make this year’s drug-free and alcohol-free graduation celebration at Northern Highlands Regional High School a success. This celebration, which will immediately follow the commencement ceremonies, is for graduating seniors from Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Upper
Saddle River, and Saddle River. While the families of the graduating seniors will pay a fee to help cover a large part of the cost, event organizers welcome additional financial assistance. Club seeks new members Membership in the Allendale Newcomers Club is annual and runs from September through June. New members may join throughout the year. Career development group offered The Allendale Clergy Association has formed a career development group called Opening Doors. The group provides a venue for peer support, networking, and practical job search resources for those who are in transition or seeking to rejoin the workforce. Opening Doors will provide resources for those who seek a communal face-to-face setting, and for those who would prefer to access them from home. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Highlands Presbyterian Church, at 270 Franklin Turnpike. All are welcome. The first Wednesday of each month begins with a specific career development topic such as self/career assessment, resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and tutorials on networking sites. On-site WiFi will be available, and representatives from the business community and the Allendale clergy will be on hand at each meeting.
