Catch up on the latest techniques and technologies at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m., when Brenda Greene, author of “Get the Interview Every Time,” presents “The New 2.0 Job Market.” Greene will discuss how to use social networking, the digital marketplace (including video resumes), information sharing, personal branding, marketing, and the blogosphere to help you find a job and leverage your career. Chamber to meet The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce will hold its next general meeting on Wednesday, May 19 at 8:30 a.m. at The Energy Zone, Juice Bar and Café located at Superdome Sports, 134 Hopper Avenue, in Waldwick. The Waldwick Chamber meets on the third Wednesday of each month. All members are welcome to attend. Pool registration underway Registration for the Waldwick Municipal Pool is underway. Residents are encouraged to register before May 23 to avoid late fees. Registration may be completed by downloading the form from www.waldwicknj.org. Forms and payment can be returned by mail. First time registrants will need to do so in person at the borough clerk’s office in order to have badge photos taken. Permit costs are $50 for adult ages 18 through 61; $45 for children ages four through 17; seniors age 62 and up are $40. Children under age three are admitted free. Waldwick residency is required. The pool will be open on weekends only beginning Sat- urday, May 23. Daily hours will begin the first Monday after the closing of schools, June 22, and the pool will be open from noon until 8 p.m. Weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Activity Nights planned A Fifth Grade Activity Night hosted by the Waldwick Municipal Alliance is scheduled for May 28 at the Crescent School All-Purpose Room from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration is required; visit the Waldwick website for details. Any fifth grade student who resides in Waldwick is eligible to attend the Activity Nights. Enrollment in Waldwick schools is not necessary. Residents may visit Budget Brochures at www.waldwicknj.org. Census takers coming to Waldwick Beginning this week, census workers will be in the borough from 8:30 a.m. to dusk. Class of 2010 Graduation DVD offered Orders for the 2010 Waldwick High School Graduation DVD will be taken through June 1. The DVD will feature graduates dressing in caps and gowns through the ceremony. All graduates will be taped receiving their diplomas. Included will be the Iced Tea Social and the Graduation Ball. Films feature book-to-movie theme Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. The theme for the month of May is “book to movie.” The schedule of screenings follows: May 20, “Our Vines Have Tender Grapes” (1945). Borough seeks CERT volunteers The Borough of Waldwick Office of Emergency Management and the Waldwick Police Department are asking citizens to volunteer their services to help safeguard the country, the communities, their families, and themselves by volunteering to participate in the Community Emergency Response Team program. CERT training consists of 20 hours of instruction over an eight-week period. Classes are taught by emergency responders, including firefighters, emergency medical services, and law enforcement personnel from the community. At the completion of the training program, basic CERT safety equipment will be issued to each successful participant. New ESL program launched The Waldwick Library recently introduced a new program, “English Language Learning Activities,” for students at all levels of English as a Second Language. The class will focus on reading and comprehension, but will include a variety of other activities to assist students in learning the English language. The new class will meet at the library on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. The ESL Conversation Group meets at the library on Mondays at 10:15 a.m. This volunteer-led conversation group is designed to engage ESL students in lively dialogue about issues they face in their daily lives.
