Sewing group forming A hand stitching group recently began meeting at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, in Ho-HoKus. The group will meet the first and third Monday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone who enjoys needlepoint or any kind of hand stitching is welcome. Call Gail Fayerweather at (201) 652-1599. Seniors plan events The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors are planning a trip to Westchester Broadway Theater to see “Sugar” (“Some Like it Hot”) on Wednesday, May 26. This group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building. Beverages and desserts are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m., or as noted. Book Fair benefit set The 2010 Ho-Ho-Kus Home and School Association’s Book Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, Route 17 South in Paramus. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit all students at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. Residents are encouraged to attend, shop, and support the school, the teachers, and the students. The day of the Book Fair, there will be a 4 p.m. story time for children in preschool through second grade, a special performance of Ho-Ho-Kus Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m., and poetry readings by a selected group of seventh graders at 8:15 p.m. A voucher is required for purchases (some items are not eligible for inclusion in this event). Vouchers may be obtained from store cashiers the day of the event. Those who are unable to attend the fundraiser may help by shopping online from June 1 through 6. This service allows patrons to download to their home computer, iPod, iPhone, iPad and Nook, ebooks, audio books, videos, and music. Patrons with a valid Ho-Ho-Kus Library card may log on to www.beateaudio.org. to register. Items may be kept from seven to 21 days. For more information, call the library at (201) 445-8078. Pet portraits on exhibit During the month of May, the WorthPinkham Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, in Ho-Ho-Kus will feature an exhibit by Maureen Casey, who specializes in pet portraits. Her oil paintings are displayed in the homes of many clients, businesses, and animal shelters. He work has also been displayed at many Ridgewood Art Institute shows. A resident of Waldwick, Casey grew up with a love for art and for animals. She is a member of the Ridgewood Art Institute, and a student of internationally acclaimed
landscape artist John Phillip Osborne. She also studies with still life artist Lorraine Minneto and pet portrait artist Renate Wehmeyer. For more information, contact the library at (201) 445-8078. Contemporary Club sets fundraiser The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will be selling fundraiser tickets during May and June. The club’s goal is to sell 400 tickets at $100 per ticket with cash prizes being offered as follows: 30 percent of ticket sales for first prize, 12 percent for second, and 8 percent for the third prize. The remaining 50 percent of the proceeds will benefit the following organizations: Community Emergency Reserve Fund, Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce, Ho-Ho-Kus Recreation Association, Ho-Ho-Kus Senior
Citizens, the Youth Activities Council, the Scholarship Fund, and the Contemporary Club. Winners will be announced at the HoHo-Kus Inn and Tavern at 7 p.m. on June 12. Ho-Ho-Kus mugs for sale The Ho-Ho-Kus Branch of the Valley Hospital is selling 14-ounce travel mugs. The mugs, made of stainless steel, sport the Ho-Ho-Kus monogram and swivel tops. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Center for Women’s Health at Valley Hospital. Mugs are $13.50 each and may be purchased by contacting Linda Woodwell at (201) 444-7627.
