Create an outdoor room Learn how to create a beautiful outdoor room with Emil Rostello and Jessica Agnello, landscape design and garden care consultants with Jacobsen Landscaping. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at the Upper Saddle River Library. Rostello and Agnello will outline how an outdoor retreat can be created regardless of space and budget. Club hosts Annual Plant Sale The Saddle River Garden Club will host its Annual Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bishop House, 176 East Saddle River Road, Saddle River. This is the club’s major fundraiser. The club will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at Jacobsen Landscape Design Gallery, 11 Barnstable Court, in Saddle River. Sponsors sought for PBA dinner The Venetian of Garfield and Seasons of Washington Township will sponsor a Cigar Dinner Extravaganza on May 24 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Venetian in Garfield to benefit several Policemen’s Benevolent Associations. Beneficiaries include Mahwah Local 143, Garfield Local 46, Paramus Local 186, Saddle River Local 348, and Pascack Valley Local 206. Donations and contributions are being
sought for this event. Individuals and businesses are invited to make a contribution or donate a gift certificate or merchandise or consider one of the special packages and journal advertisements offered. All contributors will be recognized for their donations the night of the event. Woman’s Club plans events The Woman’s Club of Upper Saddle River will hold its annual Baby Shower on May 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Savini Restaurant in Allendale. All are welcome. Donations of baby clothing or accessories for infants up to size 2T will be donated to a shelter for battered women. This spring, members of the club will be volunteering at the Designer Show House of New Jersey, a benefit for the Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. This event will run through June 6. The show house is located at 4 High Meadow Road in Saddle River. Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to call (201) 6690833. Shifts are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. Giliano to discuss cookbook The Upper Saddle River Library’s “Meet the Chefs” series will continue May 17 at 6 p.m. with Mireille Guiliano, author of the cookbook entitled “French Women Don’t Get Fat.” Guiliano’s first cookbook vividly illustrates the principles that guide her eating and allow her to enjoy food and maintain balance and a healthy, consistent weight. For years, her fans have asked her for more of the meals and recipes she touched upon in her two “French Women Don’t Get Fat” books, and she is now offering more than 150 recipes that are easy,
These second grade students from Mrs. Nicholson’s class at Reynolds School in Upper Saddle River are standing next to some of the new weather instruments placed inside of the school’s Learning Habitat. While the children observe the weather, they can now use these instruments to measure snowfall and rainfall, and chart the temperature. The instruments were purchased through a grant from the Upper Saddle River Education Foundation.
