Women’s heart health program offered The Valley Hospital and The Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce will present “Women Have Heart,” a free and informational event about women and heart disease, on May 15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, One Passaic Street in Ridgewood. The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with an educational presentation on heart disease and women, given by Valley cardiologist Janet Strain, M.D. Heart wise nutrition and exercise will be covered by Valley dietitian Andrea Anfuso-Sisto, M.S., R.D. and Valley exercise physiologist Lara Vajas, M.S. Learn about honey bees Liz Bisaccio will present Honey Bee Management and the Garden to the Master Gardeners of Bergen County on Tuesday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at One Bergen Plaza, first floor, County Place, Hackensack. Bisaccio is a Master Gardener, member of the New Jersey Beekeeper’s Association, and backyard beekeeper hobbyist. She maintains two working hives and will bring an observation box to the lecture. She will provide highlights of the modern bee hive, a typical honey bee colony, diseases of honey bees, and a review of beekeepers’ clothing and equipment. This meeting is open to all interested gardeners, free of charge. Waldwick pool badges available The Waldwick Municipal Pool has non-resident badges available for the 2010 season. Non-residents badges are $150 each. This fee applies for all groups except children ages three years or younger, who are admitted free. Previous badge holders may download a registration form from www.waldwicknj.org. The form and payment may be returned by mail. First-time registrants will need to register in person at the borough clerk’s office in order to have the photo badge taken. Motorcycle Poker Run Rally set On May 16, the Ramapo College Foundation will hold a Motorcycle Poker Run Rally to raise funds for Ramapo College’s student scholarships and undergraduate research programs. The Poker Run is sponsored by Inserra ShopRite Supermarkets and benefactors Hiden Galleries, Kosco Harley-Davidson, Liberty Subaru, Liberty Hyundai, and the Brewster Financial Group at UBS Financial Services. The Poker Run begins on the Ramapo College campus, and riders will cover an 80-mile run through northern New Jersey. There will be three stops along the way for refresh- Groups make blanket statement Three Bears Enterprises, a blanket design and sale business that was formed as the result of a finance class project at Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township, was the recipient of a donation from the Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club. Three Bears used the donation to purchase blankets to give to the homeless through IHA’s Midnight Run Chapter.
