Borough residents are asked to bundle papers in stacks no more than eight inches and leave at the curb the night before. Any papers put at the curb after 8 a.m. on Saturday may be missed. Students of the Month named As part of the student recognition program, Waldwick High School and Waldwick Middle School have named their Students of the Month for April. Faculty members made the selections. Waldwick High School students who were honored are Steven Zumbano for athletics, Karine Yamout for social studies, and Robert Occhipinti for academics. Waldwick Middle School students who received recognition are sixth grader Brian Fotino, seventh grader Serena Grecco, and eighth grader John Knight. Chamber to meet The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce will hold its next general meeting on Wednesday, May 19 at 8:30 a.m. at The Energy Zone, Juice Bar and Café located at Superdome Sports, 134 Hopper Avenue, in Waldwick. The Waldwick Chamber meets on the third Wednesday of each month. All members are welcome to attend. Clothing Drive set Crescent School will hold a Spring Clothing Drive on May 15 from 8 a.m. to noon in the school lobby. Club to discuss novel The Waldwick Library will host a discussion of “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows on Thursday, May 13 at 7:15 p.m. The German occupation of the Channel Islands, recalled in letters between a London reporter and a gaggle of Guernsey islanders, is the engrossing subject of this lively debut novel. Presenting itself as cozy fiction, the novel quickly evinces a far more serious, and ambitious, intent. Copies of the book are available at the library circulation desk. Enjoy the Big Apple on a budget Howard Goldberg, founder and president of Adventure on a Shoestring, will present “How to Enjoy New York City Inexpensively and Imaginatively” at the Waldwick Public Library on Wednesday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. Goldberg will offer valuable tips on inexpensive theatrical performances, unique budget restaurants, behind-the-scenes guided tours, free TV shows, historical houses, ethnic celebrations, afternoon tea, picturesque walks, and marvelous museums. For the past 45 years, Goldberg has researched the New York City area for inexpensive entertainment. He has made appearances on radio and television shows, and articles about his programs have appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and in Reader’s Digest. Goldberg will entertain the questions and interests of the attendees at this program. The program is free and open to the public; however, advance registration is required. Nancy Anderson will present, “Interviewing for Success” at the Waldwick Public Library on Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. In this two-hour session, Anderson will focus on the three major types of interviews: networking, telephone, and face-toface. Highlights of the program will include the flow of an interview session, behavioral questioning, and the power of networking. Participants will assess their job skills, have an opportunity to practice an interview, and learn how to develop an “elevator pitch” to use with networking contacts. Valuable resources will be provided. Anderson has over 25 years of experience in human resources, learning and development, and relationship management in the pharmaceutical, finance, and insurance industries. She has trained thousands of domestic and international employees for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, the CIT Group, The Bank of New York, and the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. Anderson is a member of the American Society of Training and Development Central Jersey and the ASTD subcommittee, People in Transition. Census takers coming to Waldwick Beginning this week, census workers will be in the borough from 8:30 a.m. to dusk. They will be carrying official credentials with them. Any questions may be directed to the police department at (201) 652-5700. Graduation DVD offered Orders for the 2010 Waldwick High School Graduation DVD will be taken through June 1. The DVD will feature graduates dressing in caps and gowns through the ceremony. All graduates will be taped receiving their diplomas. Included will be the Iced Tea Social and the Graduation Ball. Films feature book-to-movie theme Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. The theme for the month of May is “book to movie.” The schedule of screenings follows: May 13, “Cheaper by the Dozen” (1950); and May 20, “Our Vines Have Tender Grapes” (1945).
