Boye Jr. Humanitarian Award, presented by the Wyckoff Family YMCA at the annual Friends of the Y dinner. The presentation was made by Rutgers Professor Joel Flagler, a state agricultural agent who has worked closely with the Abmas. Mark Borst, BSLA, CLT, president/ owner of Borst Landscape and Design, (continued on page 18) Effective Sept. 1, Allendale Police Chief Robert Herndon will retire as head of the Allendale Police Department after 41 years of service to the borough. “Chief Herndon has spent his entire adult life in the service of the Allendale Police Department,” Mayor Vince Barra said last week. “The residents owe him a deep sense of gratitude and respect. The chief has left behind a legacy that he can be proud of. We wish him the best in his retirement.” Herndon joined the Allendale Police Department after service in the U.S. Police Chief Robert Herndon set to retire Army in Vietnam. He presided over the arduous task of replacing the old Allendale Police Station with the new Allendale Police Headquarters some years ago, running the police department out of a trailer near the Allendale Ambulance Corps headquarters. He also served for some years as a member of the Allendale Planning Board, and has received a number of honors for his police work on the state and county level. J.
