Upper Saddle River May 5, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 District seeks candidates for Wei’s unexpired term Upper Saddle River residents who are interested in stepping into Robert Wei’s unexpired term on the local board of education are invited to contact the board by 3 p.m. on Monday, May 10. Each prospective candidate must submit a letter of interest that includes his or her qualifications relevant to the position. By law, eligible candidates must be able to read and write; hold citizenship and a minimum of one year of residency in the school district; have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the school board; not hold office as mayor or a member of the governing body of the same district; and must be registered to vote in the district and not be disqualified as a voter under N.J.S.A. 19:4-1. Phone (201) 961-6504 for additional information. The school board will interview prospective candidates and select a replacement, who will serve as a trustee until the April 2011 election. At that time, the candidate may run for the one-year remaining on Wei’s term. Wei was elected to the Northern Highlands Regional High School Board of Education on April 20, and resigned his post on the Upper Saddle River Board of Education effective May 3. He had just completed the first year of his third term. Wei grew up in Bronxville, New York, and attended the public schools through eighth grade. He then attended Andover, Yale, and Harvard Business School. He spent more than 25 years in the finance industry, including 15 years dealing with the municipal financing of school, hospital, and college facilities, among other projects. For three years, he was chief financial officer of a state bonding agency helping to fund the renovation of hospitals and college facilities. He has served on the boards of several notfor-profit organizations, usually as treasurer or a member of the Finance Committee. In Upper Saddle River, Wei was a Cub Scout leader for 10 years, the recreation soccer registrar for four years, and a member of the Upper Saddle River Board of Education for seven years. He also directs traffic at pick up at Reynolds and Bogert schools.
