Allendale March 24, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 Plans for Project Graduation 2010 are underway at Northern Highlands Regional High School. This celebration, which will immediately follow the commencement Project Graduation seeks community support ceremonies, is for graduating seniors from the municipalities of Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Upper Saddle River, and Saddle River. Trees that fell during the recent rain and wind storm knocked out power to the majority of Allendale’s homes, caused Franklin Turnpike to be closed to through traffic for several days, and left Allendale Borough Hall in the dark through Monday. The tree that fell toward the municipal building knocked out electrical service to the borough offices and the library, keeping borough administrative work at a standstill until early last week. The relatively small number of trees that fell caused Downed trees stopped flow of traffic, power in borough some property damage, but the two that fell on Franklin Turnpike and the borough parking lot and a third tree that fell on Allendale Avenue caused interruption of electrical service, in some cases, for several days and also interrupted the flow of traffic through Wednesday. Police officers reported that there were no deaths or serious personal injuries due to the storm, but that coping with traffic and electrical problems was busy to the point of exhaustion for most public officials. J. KOSTER While the families of the graduating seniors will pay a fee to help cover a large part of the cost of this alcohol-free and drug-free evening, Project Graduation’s organizers are seeking community support to help make this special night even better. The planning committee welcomes any financial assistance in support of this safe alternative to the usual high-risk partying. Project Graduation is open to all graduates, and has been approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation as an effective way to minimize teen drinking and driving accidents. Anyone who would like to support this event is invited to mail a check payable to “NHRHS Project Graduation” to: NHRHS Project Graduation 2010, c/o Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue, Allendale, NJ 07401.
