Ho-Ho-Kus March 24, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 NWBCUA details sewer charges by Jennifer Crusco This year, the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus is facing an 11.44 percent increase in sewer costs. Last week, Mayor Thomas Randall and the borough council briefly discussed the 2010 fee, and expressed an interest in questioning the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority about the change. “The NWBCUA charges for Ho-HoKus are much higher than for other towns around the area, but nothing is different,” Mayor Randall said last week. He noted that flooding or infiltration would affect the rate, adding, “Something doesn’t seem to make sense.” Following the meeting, Villadom TIMES contacted NWBCUA Executive Director Howard Hurwitz, who explained how the rates are calculated. Hurwitz explained that the authority’s overall budget has increased by 2.92 percent, but the drop in outside income has necessitated increases in service charges to the municipalities. “We make up our income from a variety of sources. Investment income can be generated from unspent funds for capital improvements, but interest rates are currently low.
