Library offers census assistance Under the guidance of the U.S. Census Bureau, the Waldwick Public Library will serve as a designated Questionnaire Assistance Center for a period of five weeks ending Monday, April 19. A representative from the census bureau will be available to assist individuals who need help completing the 2010 census questionnaire. Hours of operation are: Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Thursday through Saturday, 12:30 to 3 p.m. The questionnaire assistance service is free and open to the public; no appointments are necessary. PBA hosts Easter Egg Hunt The Allendale/Waldwick PBA Local #217 will host its 16th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 27 at the Waldwick High School turf football field. The rain date is Saturday, April 3. The event is open to Allendale and Waldwick children through the fifth grade. The hunt will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until all the eggs have been found. Children will be divided into the following categories: toddler through kindergarten, first through third grade, and fourth and fifth grade. Admission is free. Children should bring a basket to hold the eggs. Parents
are reminded to bring cameras, as the Easter Bunny will also make an appearance. For further information, contact the Waldwick Police Department, (201) 652-5700. ‘The Passion of the Christ’ featured There will be a showing of “The Passion of the Christ” on Wednesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Waldwick United Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike. Volunteers needed The Waldwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps will host its first Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, April 18, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Saint Luke’s Church gym. Volunteers are needed the day of the breakfast, and to sell tickets. Call Bob Lion at (973) 296-9727. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years old. To purchase in tickets in advance, contact any Waldwick Ambulance Corps member or call (201) 4458772. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Lions hold fundraiser The Waldwick Lions Club has announced its Annual Gold Fundraiser. Tickets are $100 each and only 300 tickets will be sold. The winner will receive $10,000. Tickets are available at Plaza Jewelers, 10 East Prospect Street; L.A. Street Vans, 149 Franklin Turnpike; and Traffic Safety and Equipment, 457 Route 17 North in Mahwah. The winner will be announced April 22 at the Lions Club dinner at the Brownstone.
The Waldwick Lions Club, now entering its 55th year of service, has donated more than $750,000 to eyesight related charities and various community needs. Some of the sight charities the local club supports are: Saint Joseph’s School for the Blind, Camp Marcella for Blind Children, The Seeing Eye Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and the Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey. In the community, the club is involved with include the Lions Playground in the Borough Park, installation of a barrier-free access ramp at a residence in Waldwick, sponsoring Waldwick sports teams, education scholarships, and the annual carnival held at the Forum School Aug. 9 through 14. Fish and Chips dinner set Waldwick Fire Department Auxiliary will hold its Annual Fish and Chips (or Chicken and Chips) Dinner on Friday, March 26. Dinners are takeout only and can be picked up between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at Waldwick Firehouse Company #1, 15 East Prospect Street, Waldwick. The cost is $10 per dinner and includes a choice of fish or chicken, french fries, coleslaw, and dessert. Tickets will only be sold in advance. William Paterson announces Dean’s List The following Waldwick students have been named to the Dean’s List at William Paterson University for the fall 2009 semester: Jessica Abate, Lauren Byrne, Kristie Fucarino, Jeremia Gapasin, Robert Mangione, Lauren Mason, and Michael Rizzo. Wildcats to host Beefsteak Dinner The Bergen County Wildcats will host a Beefsteak Dinner on Saturday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Avenue, Wyckoff. This fundraiser will include beefsteak, salad, fries, soda, coffee, and dessert. Tickets are $40 for adults, and $20 for children under 12. Members of the Bergen County Wildcats are special needs athletes who range in ages from eight to adult. The Wildcats compete in a variety of sports, including volleyball, floor hockey, bowling, basketball, and softball. In addition, team members participate in the Special Olympics New Jersey Fall Festival, and the winter and summer games. The goal of the Wildcats organization is to provide special needs athletes the opportunity to participate, compete, and belong to a team. Participation increases self-esteem and independence, and gives the athletes a true sense of belonging. The team is completely funded through private donations. Activity Nights Coordinator sought The Municipal Alliance is searching for a new volunteer to coordinate the Fifth Grade Municipal Alliance Activity Nights. The coordinator will be responsible for scheduling chaperones, arranging for refreshments, and attending the events. Three events are held every spring/ early summer. Jan Mark Schwibner will answer that question at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, April 22 at 7 p.m. In his 90-minute presentation, Schwibner will show how to develop a personal marketing plan, the single most important tool a job seeker needs to manage an effective and efficient job search. This career management professional has an extensive background in career coaching, executive search, corporate recruiting, training, education, and management.
